Maria at front desk was incredibly rude and racist! When I went downstairs to ask why we were being told to “lower out noise” when we we not making any, (in fact that was a very noisy hotel as it was at capacity and in the city), I was met with hostility and disrespect. I was told I don’t need to know who complained or what the complaint was about . Then two bouncers posing as security surrounded me and Maria threatened to “throw me out of the hotel” if I don’t stop asking questions. When I asked for the names of the security guards, I was told “security!” Very nasty attitude. I am a silver elite member of Marriott, and I know that is not the way of the chain. I of course reached out to customer service who has escalated a case. I am incredibly disappointed.
The also have a very silly elevator system that has you waiting for designated elevators. A waste of time.
And they NEVER answer their phone. Coporate customer tried calling to speak to Maria and they never answered. I had been calling for two days previously to add my friend’s name and I had to demand that reception get someone to answer the phones. Completely unprofessional. They need retraining at that hotel.

Hotel was nice and quaint. But beware that you’ll be harassed by housekeeping 5 times before 10 AM “When you leaving” “what number is that you’re leaving” and they keep coming back to ask what time you’re leaving even when you tell them not until check out.

Hey shannontN7941GC,

Thanks for choosing us and giving us feedback on your experience. We are very sorry for the way our housekeeping team handled your check-out; that is not how we roll. We have taken immediate action with our crew and we hope you will give us another chance so we can take care of you the Moxy way!

We stayed there for 3 nights in April. The hotel has contactless check-in, good location and a nice rooftop bar on the last floor. The staff were nice but we had very little interaction with them. The rooms are clean and quite cute

We stayed for 2 nights at the end of april 2021 (saturday and sunday). From the begining we knew the hotel’s customer target is not people over 30yo, but here were some details that, i think, is worth to comment in here... we booked the room because Moxy is a Marriott brand and we’ve never had a bad experience in a Marriott hotel (fairfield inn, residence inn, courtyard, etc). The hotel looks new and fully renovated. Bed is comfortable and shower is warm and with good water pressure. The room is tiny, but that was not an issue for us, as we know hotel rooms in nyc are small. The window was not sound proof, and the hotel has a rooftop bar open until midnight everyday so, if you are planning to sleep before midnight, good luck. Bathroom sliding doors didn’t close properly so, no intimacy between you and your partner. Tv was oddly installed, they decided to put it under the hooks to hang your clothes and bags (as no wardrobe in the room), so if you decide not to hang your clothes and bags, you can watch the tv... also you can touch the screen with your feet or kick it while sleeping (there is also a hanging frame at feet distance ready to get kicked or kneed). Aircon is right behind the head of the bed, so you’ll get that frozen breeze straight in your neck. Corridors and hotel lobby are ridiculously narrow and small for a 600 rooms hotel. The lobby has dim light with some neon lights and barely no natural light so it looks like a tacky pub. On the side walls there are 4 massive screens with non sense useless phrases instead of using them to show useful tourist information or enhance the somber lobby. There are a couple of machines to do your check in, but if it doesnt work (like for us) there are 2 “cinema ticket windows” where you can check in with an employee. This windows have speakers next to them playing background music for lobby and to avoid any type of conversation between you and the employee doing your checkin. Check in is from 4pm check out before 12. The employees don’t have specific uniforms or nametags, so, good luck trying to recognize them among the crowd on a saturday night. I need to highlight all the employees were nice and friendly with us but We wont step on a Moxy hotel again.

Room tip: Lower rooms far from rooftop

Hey Luisvanschilt,

Thanks for your comments; we are sorry our style and setup weren't the right vibe for you. We know that the Moxy experience isn't for everyone, but we hope you'll find something you love at one of the many awesome hotels in the Marriott world. While we may not be your style, we know there's somewhere else in the Marriott family that will be a perfect fit.

It is a closet! I wanted to take my son into his friends to New York City, pandemic trip. I booked a clean room for myself and I booked the quad front room for them it looked cool they can each have their own room. The room was a total joke. There's two bunk beds and then there's a sliver of space along the bunk beds that you can barely turn around it. I kid you not it's maybe 3 feet wide of space. There's practically zero storage. When one person moves in the bunk bed all four bunk beds move. My son and his three friends were miserable the entire trip and I felt so bad because this was supposed to be a special trip for them.

The other issue is the elevators, nobody was following the covid rules, which at this point nobody cared because the line for the elevators was down the hallway. My son and his friends would literally walk up 10 flights of stairs because it was faster than waiting for the elevator.

And the self check-in is ridiculous. Most people coming here are visitors from out of town they don't know how to use the self check-in. It just creates total chaos in the lobby. So I have to say I will never stay here again. And I do not recommend it to families that want to have room to breathe on their vacation and not have a lobby that feels like total pandemonium all the time.
