Let me begin saying that I am an Hilton Honors member (silver level) and have comfortably stayed in Doubletree Hotels. In fact, just prior to this I stayed at a comfortable and welcoming Doubletree in Philly. I usually stay at the Hilton Midtown and am always pleased. But that Hilton was booked so I ended up at the Doubletree on West 29th.
I was disappointed. It's a hotel with few amenities, a cramped lobby, small windows, and and tiny, drab rooms. Overall, it's a depressing hotel. I get that this is New York and space is at a premium. But lacking any nice touches in the rooms such as a business desk or nice window, it's a drag even to rest in the hotel. To say this hotel is in Chelsea seems stretch. The neighborhood is safe and there are plentiful restaurants, but it seems miles away from the charm of Chelsea or Soho. For what I paid for two double beds, it really felt like I was being taken. Little measures up the standards that I associate with Hilton.More
