My wife and I spent two evenings at the Hotel Indigo during a recent (mostly) business (for me) trip. Honestly, I selected this hotel because it was one of the only options under $300/night. I had never heard of the brand before and was not familiar with this particular location. I was worried that it might not be up to par with the three Hilton-branded properties I had stayed at in the San Diego area on previous trips. I found out, quickly, how wrong I was to be concerned.
We were greeted by the enthusiastic staff upon arrival (and, subsequently, each time we walked through the doors). During check-in (about 3:45 pm on a Monday), I was politely informed that my room was not quite ready and invited to have a seat in the lobby for just a few minutes. I wasn't upset by that, because the lobby was quite comfortable, with a modern design and a decent-sized bar. But, I never got to have that drink because the manager intervened and upgraded us to a suite, overlooking Petco Park (my initial room request was also to be overlooking the park).
Our suite was spacious and beautifully designed. The bed and pillows were, quite literally, the most comfortable I had ever slept on. The ballpark view was legitimate, not just some trumped-up sales gimmick. I mean, you couldn't keep a scorebook from the room, but you definitely could see the game.
Best of all, we really enjoyed the 9th floor rooftop bar, which had the same view, but came with the added bonus of all the ballpark sounds. We enjoyed walking around the neighborhood.
I will definitely be back to a Hotel Indigo, whether in San Diego or elsewhere!
