Sorellina is in our neighborhood and while it has taken us a while to find her we will make this a regular spot for dining now that we have discovered such a gem in Back Bay. There is a passion for great food and service that you can sense when you sit down at your table at Sorellina. The atmosphere has been impeccably designed and carefully maintained. Our service last night was perfectly balanced between attentive and unobtrusive. Our waiter was knowledgable not only with the menu but the art of great service. He was a gentleman serving ladies and gentlemen.
The menu showed a balance between light fair and traditional Italian but with a lift.
I started with the appetizer of Verture. Fresh chilled steamed vegetable medley of jumbo asparagus, artichokes, peas, fava, pickled ramps with lemon whipped ricotta. Perfect.
My date enjoyed the Polpo, grilled octopus, squid ink cous cous, cherry peppers, finocchio. Outstanding.
For main courses we chose Fettuccine with market exotic mushrooms and truffle butter along with Veal Saltimbocca, prosciutto, maitake mushrooms and truffle whipped potato. I have never had such a spectacular saltimbocca. The chef prepared veal tenderloin with pounding the poor veal to death, allowing the character of the tenderloin to stand up, complimented by the traditional prosciutto and mushrooms. A must have.
A side dish of eggplant rollatini, ricotta, mortared pesto genovese joined our entrees. Slightly uneventful but delicious.
Take time to enjoy Sorellina, you will be glad you did.
