The hotel is located near Fisherman's Wharf and is walking distance to many attractions. When you first walk in, you are always greeted with a hello from all the employees. This is what sets this hotel apart from many larger chains. The rooms are decorated nicely, very nautical. Large soup and body wash so you don't have to request more daily. Private balcony if you choose a balcony room. Very clean rooms, lobby and outside area. There are 3 or 4 fire pits outside, a playroom with ping pong and a pool table. There is a water filling station in the courtyard so bring your own water bottle to fill. A special shout out to Kathy and Prince. You both made this stay much more personal and made us feel special. Thank you both for all your assistance in surprising our friend for her 40th bday. Hope to see you again Zephyr on our next SF trip.

Starting with the things to watch out for is the price for parking. It’s $58 a night for self park, and $62 for valet! What they also failed to mention with this price is the 14% tax on top of that they nail you with at check out. If you’re renting a car, that’s a percentage of the price you probably paid per night to have the car in the first place. Second was the AC! It’s a floor mounted unit about 3-1/2 to 4 feet tall, located directly next to one of the beds in the double Queen room. It blasts air directly onto the bed with no way to divert the direction or adjust the fan at the control hub at the room entrance. It’s not possible to sleep or even lay down and relax on the bed. The result is that we had to turn it off at night, which resulted in me sweating through the night each night. Not fun, but no choice. Not sure what the other rooms look like, but I would not get a double queen here, or I would stay somewhere else.

Now to the good part. The views are spectacular. My room was looking directly at Alcatraz, as do most. I believe the ones on the other side of the hotel overlook Fisherman’s Wharf. The hotel staff were great. They also have lots of water stations so you can keep your plastic bottles the entire time, and just re-fill them for free. It’s good water also. The plaza area is very cool to hang out and chill for a while with fire pits, and cool arrangements. The location is right at Pier 39, so the location is great. Overall it’s very worth it, and I would stay here again, but just try to find a way to limit the expenses and chose the room.

Hi Steve,

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and I am pleased to see you enjoyed your overall stay with us. I am especially happy to read our team took great care of you and that you made full use of our courtyard and location - the closet hotel to Pier 39. Parking is definitely an expensive proposition in SF and we are always happy to offer more cost effective options available if our onsite and secure lot isn't the right fit. Also when booking direct parking is included with your stay when booking Sunday-Thursday. I apologize that the AC was an issue. We do have PTAC units as opposed to central air which is a definite benefit with the times we are living in. Thank you again and I appreciate you wanting to return, when you have dates set, please reach out to me directly and I will make sure we take great care of you.

We came to San Francisco to celebrate a very special birthday. I did A LOT of research to find the perfect hotel. The Zephyr did not disappoint!! The staff is top notch. Everyone is friendly and welcoming. A special shout out to Crissy who helped me with our reservation. I highly recommend getting a room with a balcony. The view of Alcatraz and the fun courtyard is quite special. There are many extras at this property - a game room, fire pit, s'mores kit, hydration station, and interesting decor. I really appreciate the birthday gift that was waiting. The location is perfect for a family visiting San Francisco. Thank you Hotel Zephyr for making this a memorable birthday experience!!

Room tip: Highly recommend a balcony room

Can’t say enough about what a unique, friendly staffed hotel this is. And it’s very close to Fisherman’s Wharf. We visited with 3 of our adult kids but could also see how it would be great for younger children too. The courtyard and game room have some great ways to chill and spend time together and this evening they had complimentary S’mores kits for guests. How great is that!?!

Love the hotel the positive
- family friendly
- excellent location
- love the game room and yard
- staff is friendly

The negative
- room and bathroom were kind of beaten up and old definitely needs to be updated the closet was missing the mirror sliding doors

- our room was facing the parking lot very depressing I wish it was explained to me before finalizing the reservation I could done some adjustments. To be fair I requested a room with no balcony because of my young son but still at least they could have explained it’s facing the parking lot.

Hi there,

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and I am pleased to see you enjoyed your stay overall. We definitely are a family friendly location with our game room and courtyard with fire pits, along with being the closet hotel to Pier 39. I am also happy to see our team did a great job taking care of you. I do apologize with the rooms issues you experienced, thats not typical for us and I will definitely have our engineering team take a look at the room you were in. In terms of our guest rooms we have many different options available, with some having breath taking views of the Bay and Alcatraz while others that don't afford a view but offer a quiet nights sleep tucked away from the city's sounds. Thanks again and I hope we have the pleasure of welcoming you back to the Hotel Zephyr in the near future.
