I stayed at the Intercontinental Hotel for an onsite conference. I will return to this hotel in the future for its easy-to-use location for shopping, restaurants, and the BART. The facilities were top-notch. Restaurant and bar were pricey for the food or drink offered - had drinks at the bar upon arrival and spent $40/pp for two glasses of wine each! From that point forward, we only ate onsite for conference-sponsored activities including Happy Hour.
The hotel's front desk was efficient. However, it had long lines in the morning of conference check-out day. Elevators were adequate except when the conference was changing sessions.

Room tip: Best views are on north side

We staid mid August at the start of a family holiday around California and Arizona. We had rooms next to each other for 3 adults and two children. One of the reasons we chose the hotel was for its pool. This was great for two boys to unwind at the end of the day and being indoors meant the cooler August days were not a problem.
The staff were excellent , recommending alternative parking versus the expensive valet and also getting us 20% off a trip to the science and natural history museum.
Would definitely recommend popping round the corner to Mel's Drive In for breakfast.
Definitely a recommended hotel.

We stayed at the InterContinental San Francisco for the better part of a week in mid-August. We were not certain what to expect, as it's a large hotel near a convention center. The InterContinental was a pleasant surprise in all areas—especially service. The check-in process was very quick and easy. All the staff were very polite. We were given a corner room on the 24th floor that had a great view of the city through floor to ceiling windows on two sides. The view and sense of elevation would've been enough to make for a special stay, but Kelly Huang, who manages the Club Lounge, made our stay even more special with her friendly, professional and personal style. Even without Kelly's kindness every day, our stay at the InterContinental would have been superior, but having the serenity of the lounge as a retreat made our visit extraordinary. Kudos to the InterContinental management team for a job well done!
The food and beverages offered in the lounge were beautifully presented, well-prepared and invariably delicious. We enjoyed quiet breakfasts overlooking the city, away from the hustle and bustle of the lobby—a perfect way to begin the day!
When we return to SF we will definitely stay here again! Highly recommended!

I spent two days in San Francisco with my husband for my birthday and stayed at that city's Intercontinental for the first time. (Our experience at the Intercontinental in Porto, Portugal left us with a very favorable impression of this hotel chain.) We were offered an upgrade upon arrival, and the room that we were given was very spacious, comfortable, and had excellent views of the downtown and the San Francisco bay. We were pleasantly surprised when someone knocked on the door in the afternoon and offered us a dessert, beverage, and a happy birthday greeting. The check-in staff member had noticed that it was my birthday and had wished me happy birthday, but this was very thoughtful of them, and it was indicative of the hospitality, attention to detail, and impeccable service that characterizes this hotel. The hotel has a Michelin star restaurant, which we did not try, and an excellent bar, which specializes in grappa, which is one of my favorite after dinner drinks.

The only unpleasant experience that I had, which was not due to the hotel, but to another guest, was that the swimming pool was monopolized by the same small children the two times I tried to use it. It might be a good idea to establish "adult" or "children's" hours. I don't know what a "kid's pool" is exactly, but the pool felt like a "kid's pool."
