In the heart of San Fransisco, there is a little place with a tall tower called Japantown. As it is s home for several Japanese shops and restaurants, there was no question to try out a sushi place, and Sanppo was a real good choice!

The place itself is very authentic, the decor itself shows some Japanese aspects, so we had high hopes when we headed to our table. The restaurant is a little place where there are just a few tables, which makes it quite cosy and friendly. The waitress is a gem, she is very kind and smiling all the time, however she got confused by our order, and did not exactly got us what we wanted, but either way, the food was fantastic. Miso soup was as expected, sushi was just at the right temperature with the right amount and textured rice and all the fish and seafood was fresh.

Overall, it was a really nice experiment, I would definitely return if I would live near.

We loved this little place in Japantown in San Francisco, it felt like being in a family dinner as invited guests. The staff was extremely kind and friendly, they seemed to know the regulars at the other tables. The sushi, the wakame salad and the curry udon was exceptional. When we was leaving the place, a nice gentlemen at the other table asked where we were from, he was amazed when he heard our answer and he told us that he was known as the "Barbecue Man" as well as he was a Preacher Man and he started to sing a blessing gospel to us. This made the whole evening even more special.

We took the Muni Bus to Japan Town to explore and grab some lunch. Thinking the Japanese cuisine choices would be good because of where we were, we randomly chose a restaurant on Post St. that said they had lunch specials that included Bento Boxes, which we usually love. They are definitely filling and contain a variety of raw and cooked dishes for a very good price.
The Bento Box choices at Sanppo started with salty miso soup. The price was reasonable, $8.95, and included two meat/protein choices, small lettuce salad, pickled seaweed and sprouts, and white rice. Hot tea was complimentary, which I do appreciate.
The meat choices included one of my favorites, grilled saba (mackerel) which was also a tad too salty, various teriyakis, a California roll or a grilled salmon roll. I chose the grilled salmon roll as my 2nd meat. It was filling but not very memorable.
My husband chose the Saba and the Salmon Teriyaki, which he enjoyed. We were certainly filled up, but the flavors could have been better.

This is a small place and seemed to have a mostly Asian clientele which we think is positive for a Japanese restaurant. The sashimi tuna was very fresh and generous proportions, shrimp tempura with veggies was crisp and not greasy with no aftertaste, the green salad was very basic. I recommend the green tea mochi was a great end to the meal. The price was about average for Japanese food.

We had a wide assortment of entrees. Sushi, Bento, tempura, fermented pickle, miso, ramen, wakame. Everything was good and the service was excellent. The 49er roll
Was especially refreshing. Would definitely go back.
