Stop in for Holiday lunch and was pleasantly surprised at the great value for the Lunch Boat which came with soup. The boat had salad. Sashimi, shrimp and vegetable tempura and rice topped with fresh orange!!!

The restaurant focus was more on the show, theatrical performance than the food. It's a fun night out for groups and families so they could watch tricks performed by chefs.

Food was ok not great. The filet Mignon cut was really tender but the Rocky's Choice dish was average - chicken was dry and beef did not have enough flavours. It's very noisy so not a place for decent conversations with friends. All performances were too choreographed with chefs flicked the light switch to make lights flickering etc. was a bit kitsch, however, my elderly aunt and the kids had a good time.

Not a place to go for good food!

What can I say, it's Benihana- the food is mediocre at best (and downright bad by San Francisco standards) as well as grossly overpriced, and service and cleanliness are just so-so but it's all about the show and kids absolutely love it. We visited late afternoon (the only available time; book ahead if you want prime dinner time) and 3/4 or more of the tables were filled with kids. When I was kid, Benihana offered a bit of flash with the knife handling but the restaurant now has to satisfy kids raised with the internet and Circ de Soleil so they've significantly amped up the showmanship- expect raw eggs dancing in the air, shrimp tails landing in the chef's hat, and an onion volcano billowing smoke and fire. Was it worth $120 for lunch for 2 adults and 2 kids? Apparently so, judging by the satisfied cheers from my table and others, at least from the kids' perspective.

We were a party of eight kids and adults and this was a really fun thing to do. We had a reservation, which is key for a Sat night in the city, so we were able to sit down promptly. Then the show began! They take your orders and prepare all the meals in front of you. We ordered the chicken, beef, salmon and seafood combos as they were all delicious. The only complaint was that they ran out of chocolate ice cream for dessert. They even come by and take a table shot and give it to you as a parting gift. Very nice touch!

Benihana slides further downhill every time we come and this last time was the last visit. Our server was nice and prompt but it was so loud we couldn't hear her. we couldn't talk to anyone at the table who wasn't directly next to us. The chef was boring, didn't smile and even if he would have engaged with us we couldn't have heard him. The food was fine, I don't expect it to be amazing I KNOW I am paying for the atmosphere and the chef, both sucked. Save your money, if you want interactive, go to Hot Pot.
