All about expectations...

3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Jan 24, 2020
It is all about expectations. I got this place for "significantly" less than surrounding hotels. Most of the others are big, full-service, modern resorts, and this is a simple older hotel which is what I was looking for.

Biggest things for me are clean and comfortable bed. There were minor signs of mold in the shower (nothing serious) but otherwise was clean. Was a comfortable bed (most hotels have hard beds which I do not like).

It is a bit older, and maintenance could be better. I made two minor maintenance adjustments in my first hour there. 1) flush level nut had fallen off in the toilet tank and 2) one of the front feet on the fridge was 1/2" short, making it rock every time I opened the door. These were simple 2-minute fixes I did not mind making, but they indicate a lack of facility maintenance. I have attached a photo of the entrance; it shows one letter falling off, and others in a slightly different color, indicating they changed some out without repainting them all at the same time (lack of maintenance).

Overall, I would stay here again because of the location and cheap price! Just go in with the expectation of a no-frills basic hotel, and compare prices to others in the area and will will be fine!

Due to the hurricane that hit part of the Hawaii state, my United flight to Guam arrived after my connecting flight to Manila had already left. So I looked online and found this hotel to be moderately priced for a last minute booking and since I was only going to be in Guam for less than 12 hours this hotel seemed like the great choice.

Distance from airport: I am not sure the distance but it took about 15 minutes in the taxi and it was about $25 for the taxi fare. Since I arrived on a Saturday night at 8:30 there was no traffic.

Location: As others have said, the great thing about the Tumon Bay Capital hotel is the location. It is about a 10 minute walk to a main shopping area. Just a warning the hotel is on a hill so the walk might be kind of tiring for some of you. Especially me who was in jeans, tshirt on a humid night. The shopping area has several restaurants, including the Hard Rock Café, McDonalds, and other stores. I thought it looked like Waikiki in Hawaii with the Outrigger hotel and the ABC stores, which has some overly priced drinks and food. I did notice a water park next to the hotel. Due to my late arrival and early departure I was not able to fully experience this area. I also noticed various other hotels (Outrigger, Westin, Hyatt), but I cannot tell you how far those hotels were from the shopping area.

Checking In and Lobby Area: I guess since it was about 9:30 pm when I arrived there was no one at the registration desk. Just when I was about to ring the bell a person came out from the back and asked if I wanted to check in. I said yes and after getting my information he gave me the room key. Unlike other hotels, this hotel still uses a key to open the door versus a card or your phone. My impression of the lobby is a basic hotel. The lobby is open, not air conditioned and there was some old looking furniture. I guess you can say the lobby was a great preview of the room.

Room: The room I was assigned had two beds and the room reminded me of the older hotels I used to stay at with my parents in the 70's. The room reminds me of the saying, "You get what you pay for." Don't get me wrong, the room was perfect for me since I was only staying one night but if I was there for more than two nights I would probably choose a different hotel. The room had a small refrigerator and the bed was a little hard for me. There was some cracked areas in the tub. The closet hangers was a mixed bag of different ones, it looked like travelers left their old ones. The room looked like it was not renovated anytime recently. The great thing about the room was the wifi, I had to download an app on my ipad and the wifi was pretty quick. I am not sure how quick it will be to download a movie.

Checking Out: Checking out was a breeze since I left at 4:00 am and I was the only guests.

Transportation to the Airport: It is a good idea to make arrangements with the receptionist the day before because there is no taxi service that drives by the hotel. It is best to make arrangements prior which I did.

Conclusion: I thought the hotel did it's job for what I needed. Which was a place to stay, get a shower, get some food, and go back to the airport the next morning. For me if was to return to Guam for vacation I think I will spend a little more and stay at a resort closer to the beach.

This nice hotel is located just up the hill from the main strip of Tumon. It's the cheapest hotel around and is a great value! The 9th floor rooms have a great balcony and view of the ocean and sunset. The rooms have wifi, AC, TV with cable, and all basic amenities. The desk staff is super friendly and helpful! I love this hotel and location and price so much that I've booked it for my next vacation this month for 9 nights.

Room tip: 9th floor rooms have great views of downtown Tumon, the ocean, and sunsets.

The room is spacious and right above the shopping tourist area of Tumon, right next to the water park Tarza. Very convenient and our room got a good view of Tumon sunset!
However the room is not well equipped, there's no hair dryer unless you rent it daily. There's no kettle, there's a fridge but somehow it keeps leaking inside.
They only offer us one key to our room even there's two of us, you will need to use the key to activate the room power so there's a situation when my friend went out at night and I was asleep, she took the key in case I didn't hear her to open the door for her, I got power cut in the room... I had to call to lobby and asked for a key but they actually offer me a key for the other room, I guess they really only have one key each room...

The PERKS of this hotel are very centrally-located and it has a gorgeous view especially for sunset.

If you're not ready to fork out some $$$ to stay in some newer, fancier and pricier hotels, your options are quite limited to the aged and tired ones, like this.

This is a tired hotel that looks like it has its days 20-30 years ago.

Despite the photo provided by the hotel, I'm not sure what the last time anyone has been down that pool...

The staffers, while they do attempt to appear helpful, dont have a clue about the simplest things like public transportation (which is virtually inexistant esp if you're spoiled from major Asian cities - do try to rent a car), local attractions, tours on offer or postage matters.

Tips: if you do decide to stay here and aren't driving yourself, Lam Lam Tours (a private company that runs a few routes around key tourist attractions) has a service between the airport and DFS The Galleria, which is a stone throw away from the hotel - if you're looking to save a few bucks not taking a cab.

So it's a short walk from the strip and the cheapest in Tumon however I feel it's still overpriced for the quality. Accommodations (hair dryer, beach towel, ect) will cost you extra. Laundry is from 8-5pm and it's $7/load! Typically in hotels it's $2 for washer and another $2 for dryer. I've stayed in condemned military barracks that look better than this place. The only good thing is the view of the ocean. If you are out exploring all day you will be fine but I will pay extra for cleanliness next time.
