We came here a couple times because it was so peaceful and beautiful here. The boardwalk itself is great, we learned a lot about the migratory birds that use this area. There is also access to the beach all along Maalaea Bay, we found it so quiet with only 2-3 people, we had the whole beach to ourselves! There is a section with some rocks along the beach where you can find a great collection of tide pools with lots of little creatures. The signs say that there is a coral reef out in the bay, so there is a lot of dead coral that gets washed up here, makes for interesting beach combing. The waves seem a bit calmer here too. There are no showers or other beach amenities though.

We only had a few minutes to explore before dark but the setting is absolutely peaceful and scenic. We saw some white water birds. I want to go back when I have some time and it's day light. Could definitely spend an hour or more

We're not birders by any means, but appreciate nature and my daughter and I really enjoyed taking a little time out of our trip to stop and walk the boardwalk. We spotted a number of interesting birds that we wouldn't have seen on our trip otherwise including native Hawaiian species Ae'o and 'Auku'u.

We enjoy the walk. I was able to take many pictures of birds. Parking is limited but there is parking on the side of the road.

Just gotta stop here! What a beautiful place along the road (Hwy 311) to Kihei. Very nice boardwalk with informative plaques and even on the worst weather days, you will see birds and other types of wildlife. Beach access to Sugar beach allows you to see just how this marsh area is tied to the ocean. A great place to be enjoyed and protected.
