Following the beautiful Road to Hana drive (a must see, if somewhat harrowing experience!) the park was the perfect reward. The black sand beach and sheltered swimming cove make it the perfect way to cool off and relax. The bay is home to small bottom feeder fish so kids will want to bring their flippers and goggles to do some sight seeing!

Be prepared for a bit of a walk to the beach as it is a 5-10 minute hike from the parking lot. worth it though as the vistas along the way are gorgeous!

a must-see! prettiest black sand beach I've seen, water was a little choppy though so be careful! also a cool lava tube on the beach, a great beach!

Full disclosure, I've reviewed Wai'anapanapa (why a napa napa) previously, but it bears repeating. If you've never visited this park, DO NOT drive past as you rush to Hana. The black sand beach, the sea arch, the toilet... are all worth the time and a chance to stretch your legs. Even my teenagers love this spot.

Note: If you don't have a plan in mind, this is also a good place for a picnic lunch.

For a driving enthusiast like me, driving the Road to Hana is fun in and of itself.

Of the many place to stop, this one is a must. The black sand beach is really neat. We have done a fair amount of traveling and this was a first for us. It felt softer than "sand-colored" sand, but than may have been my imagination. You can also walk through the cave.

This beach makes the drive worth it! The views are amazing, but unfortunately, the black sand beach was full of debris from the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, which people neglected to clean up. Make sure to bring a camera, many of the views in this park are picturesque and just soaking it up there and then won't be enough!
