Great displays, has some great history behind everything they have displayed as well! Definitely worth a stop as it won’t take long to walk through!
Learned a lot about the area. There is a section on animals that live in the area. In the basement was a walk back in time that you could see the different things that would have been there.
A very interesting collection. We were told it is all donations. There are some intersting videos. Admission is free with a suggested $5 per person donation. Great rainy day activity.
Lots of displays depicting early life and trades in Sturgeon Bay. The display of birds and wildlife is completely authentic and we listened to the taxidermist responsible for it. Worth about an hour stop.
We visited here on a hot Saturday in July and were amazed at the great collections. In one area they have plaques on the wall of many inventions and notable people from the area. I usually skip by a lot of this type of stuff because it is sometimes overwhelming to me, but I discovered a lot of unique things that occurred here. Downstairs there are areas set up to represent many of the businesses in the area. The collections here are very complete. Coming back upstairs there is a fire museum you can visit complete with fire trucks. On the top floor there are displays of cherry picking, ice skating, resorts from days gone by. Make this a stop on your travels. This museum is perfect for all ages. Plan on at least 2 hours.
We had some time on our hands in Sturgeon Bay, so decided to check out the local history museum. We enjoyed it immensely. For a relatively small museum in a small town, there is a wealth of things to see and learn about. People in this area seem to cherish their local history. Just inside the main entrance is a display of local area wildlife, consisting mostly of the work of a local taxidermist and artist. There is a section devoted to the local fire department, with some old fire engines on display. There is a section devoted to the cherry industry. There is also much more to see. We spent about 4 hours there, and easily could have spent more time than that if we had the time available. If you enjoy this kind of thing, you won't want to miss this museum.
