It's a lot better from the outside. Inside, it looks like an old building that has been rerererefitted to provide indoor plumbing, HVAC, electricity, etc. Read the plaques on the outside and let it go at that.

If Charles Town is on your route to wherever you're going or you're visiting friends or family, this is a quick stop in the center of the historic town. The main street is charming with several antique and vintage shops, restaurants, and other businesses. The courthouse has a handful of signs with information about John Brown and Charles Washington (George's youngest brother).

Wow what a place with so much history. Started at the Charles Town Visitors Center to get information. This little gem is located on George St . Went across the street to the Courthouse and was amazed!! Such a cool little town

It is amazing to think about sitting in the same room as John Brown when he was convicted and sentenced to death by hanging.

Historically this is one of the most important buildings in the county. It is where John Brown's trial was railroaded by the Va Governor. No justice was served here, and since the place is in such shambles today I don't see how anyone could feel they would have a fair trial.... time for a new courthouse. This should be a tourist attraction as it retains a lot of the original historic fabric and is much extant. Tours are being given on a regular basis. Recently some beautiful historic boxwoods were removed from the front. The windows are filthy. Crooked and creaky floors. A very neat place to visit but I wouldn't want to be tried there!
