13 of our Garden Club members enjoyed this Early Spring self-guided tour. We were fortunate to have a beautiful day as the previous week’s plans were cancelled due to snow forecast. We were treated to a special Hellebore sale and talk by Dan Hinkley about the care and selection of Hellebores as well.
We picked up box lunches from the Point Casino and that worked out well. We can’t wait to go back and see the garden throughout the seasons.

We have so appreciated the revival of Heronswood after its purchase by the Port Gamble S’Klallam Tribe, with the guidance and expertise of Dan Hinckley to restore it to its former glory. It is a wonderful botanical garden with a fantastic selection of plants from the Northwest and around the world, thanks to Dan Hinckley’s explorations for plants from the far reaches of the globe. Every season is different in this garden - as members it’s fun to receive the regular emails about the highlights of each season. Heronswood hosts quarterly plant sales by a great variety of specialty nurseries from Washington and Oregon - a terrific place to find unusual plants.

We have been volunteers with Heronswood Garden for their spring and summer plant sales. We were so excited to see them complete their special event venue. It's lovely. The garden crew hosted a holiday tea in early December 2017. The garden was various shades of green. It's a pleasant and easy drive up to the north part of the Kitsap Peninsula. You can see much of it during a day trip. However, the Port Gamble S'Klallam Tribe just built a fabulous new hotel near the garden - so you can make an entire weekend of your trip. You could also lodge guests if you hosted an event at the garden. Anyway, it's gorgeous. Check it out!

This was a most enjoyable time. It is a memory that will last for years. There was enjoyable company to be had with the many friends of Heronswood. There was enjoyable Tea service break time followed by Dan Hinkley; most enjoyable speaker and world-renowned plants man. Dan Hinkley presented a dialogue of his travels and plant collecting aventures for the year 2017. He provided a sneak peek at the gardens of Martha Stewart, for whom he will be providing commentary in some upcoming literature publications.
