My New Zealand fiend booked us a room 10 months in advance. Because she booked via booking.com we were charged $50 dollars more a night then the advertised rate on their website. When we questioned the reception lady she said..because you booked via booking.com. the rate was different when you booked. I found that totally unacceptable that they can get away with charging us more because we use the service of a booking company. If she feels that way why does she uses their service for bookings? I believe is best to book early if you want to get discounts and the room of choice early. However that was not the case for u. The very unpleasant and unhelpful woman on the reception desk switch our bookings. Also we were given totally different rooms to the once we originally booked. She never bother to ring my friend and explain why the changes were made. No restaurant was available on the day of our stay. They had a public function and the noise on the courtyard was unacceptable. One of the rooms we were given was next to the public toilets where the noise was. The beds also need replacing.. they are not very comfortable for the price she charge us.

If you're thinking of doing the Tora Walk and wondering where to stay when you finish it, then look no further. The Martinborough Hotel has it all. Comfortable rooms, hot showers, an outdoor area for pre-dinner drinks, a wonderful restaurant and cosy library area for after-dinner drinks. All that was missing was a cigar to go with the whisky but none of us smoke. All of that without leaving the hotel!
Great value for money: quiet (we couldn't hear any of the other guests), spacious and clean rooms, comfortable beds, friendly and helpful staff, plus the bonus of free WIFI. What a wonderful way to cap off a memorable weekend.

My husband and I stayed a couple of nights in April in an amazing Garden Suite. The room was huge with a huge comfortable bed, amazing bathroom with a free standing claw bath and a very private balcony. We ate in the hotel restaurant the first night and food was beautiful. Very central to everything in town and only a short drive to the delightful Greytown. Some lovely cafes in town and very impressed with The Lighthouse Gin served in hotel:):):) Pity I cannot buy it back in Australia.
Would recommend this hotel to anyone and hopefully we will return one day to explore this beautiful area of NZ.

Room Tip: Spend a bit more and stay in a Garden Suite

Have always meant to stay here to see what the hotel was like, and finally got the chance via a local’s big birthday. I took the smallest, cheapest room and it was still lovely. A comfortable double on the upstairs corner with a shared balcony that runs around the building. Various sitting spaces in the building including a library with a cosy gas fire, and nice outside spaces for summer.
The wooden villa-style hotel is a feature in this small village in the heart of Wairarapa wine country. No breakfast served but good cafes dotted around just a few steps away. Good wifi. Recommended.
