Great view of the mainland. Good pizza and ribs. Very small selection of wines though there were a few beers to select from
Hi Ross,
Thankyou for your review. We are very fortunate to have a beautiful view. Our wine selection is not overly large ( 9 wines ) but we have found this to be accommodating as 8/10 of our patrons elect for the Local Kangaroo Island wine which we carry in both Red & White, regards
We arrived at 6.30pm previously booking a table for 3. When we arrived, there was a baby screaming out the back of the kitchen, and a toddler sitting on a bucket out the back (doors were half swing doors). There was a 6 year old serving out cutlery to people at the table and a 10 year old delivering food. At one stage, she stopped and put her foot up on one of the seats, tied her shoelaces then proceeded to walk back into the kitchen wiping her hands on her pants. There was an older lad possibly 15? with the same baby that was screaming, on his hip in the kitchen. When we arrived, we were told that as it was late, there was not a lot of food left but pizzas were okay. We ordered pizza and drinks. We were then told there could be quite a delay for our food to come out. This was after they took our money. As I was sitting down at our table, I noticed that inside the back of the kitchen, part of the roof had caved in and there was now quite a large hole. Not sure if there was any food being prepped underneath. During our wait, I noticed the 2 year old wonder out of the kitchen and around to where her dad was prepping pizza. Behind him was the pizza oven. She came back out and into the kitchen with a mobile in her hand and sat on the bucket with the phone. We received our pizzas which were actually quite nice, but by that time I was really put off and only ate half. We left and warned a couple of friends not to go.
We stopped here for dinner because the pub was full and were disappointed to hear that their pizza oven was broken (repairer due later in the week) and their supply delivery hadn't arrived so they were very low on stocks and couldn't cook anything that needed to be finished in the oven. Nevertheless, the manager ran through what WAS available on the menu, plenty still to choose from. I had grilled fish, which had been freshly caught, and my partner had a chicken parmi and both were excellent. A bit sad that we couldn't try their famous ribs or pizza but maybe next time. We'll be back. Also delightful to see some well trained children helping out around the restaurant in their school holidays (bringing meals and refilling water bottles etc). Great stuff.
Had a great time at this restaurant owner was friendly and willing to chat with us about the island and fishing. A truly family friendly and family run business. Also the squid fries are amazing
