Good hotel but nowhere near excellent. Positive points are free water park access, modern style hotel, friendly staff, decent breakfast and both indoor and outdoor pools. The negatives, the location of the hotel and cleanliness of rooms and the outdoor pool area.
The hotel appears quite new and has a modern style. We arrived at 11.00am and were informed that check in was 4.00pm, not ideal. The staff appeared very young but seemed friendly and moderately efficient. We changed, left our bags and walked to the water park which was 100 meters or so away.
Without doubt, he main attraction of this hotel is the waterpark, it is superb for kids. It opens at 10.00am with massive queues (each morning we slipped down the side showing our hotel bands with immense embarrassment but relief - entrance C), it is the best park I have seen in Europe. Rides and slides for everyone but it does get very busy very quickly.
On entering our room it appeared clean at first hand, however on closer inspection we noticed small splats of chocolate on the walls, floor and our child's bed linen. Under the bed was unclean and there was hair on the bathroom floor. The handle for the balcony was also broken. Rather than complain, due to reading previous reviews, we sorted these minor problems ourselves. The poolside in the morning also needs a good clean. There was debris from the night before when breakfast was being served. On putting towels on sunbeds I was wearing second hand plasters and kicking empty beer cups.
Although it is fantastic for the water park, the location of the hotel is a problem. Walking to the nearest shop (10 minutes ) and restaurants (15 minutes) is quite dangerous. It is along a busy road with no path, literally using the hard shoulder. The nearest town is a 15 minute taxi ride, ranging from 12 - 15 Euros. The marina is certainly worth a couple of trips simply for the range of restaurants. Would we go again? Probably not, but we are please we tried it once.

I am utterly disgusted with the way we were treated when this incident occurred. Initially when we arrived at the hotel on a Thursday 21st of June, we had to wait till our room was ready which was fine. However on getting access to the rooms and on opening the fridge in one of the rooms we noticed a very unpleasant smell coming from one of the fridges. Although we were shocked that the cleaner would not have reported this (given they they had just finished cleaning the room) we didn’t report it as we decided that we would just use the fridge next door. NB: we were a family of two adults and two kids with two room where the connecting door was opened at all times.

We were all feeling a little lethargic over the next few days and had put this down to the sun. On hindsight now, we were inhaling ammonia which was leaking from the fridge.

By the Tuesday I was concerned for my six year old as she was really listless and had a bit of a cough. I agreed with my husband that he would stay in doors with her and have the air on switched off as I thought that perhaps she was getting a chill.

My husband did notice a smell in the room but thought that it was just the new sun cream we were using. However hours later, around three o clock he felt light headed and noticed that the smell was considerably worse. On walking around the room he realised that the smell was coming from the fridge.

He immediately took my daughter down to the reception to report the fridge. On leaving the bedroom, the smell was really noticeable in the corridor as well. Reception told him that they would send someone up to sort it out.

My husband and child went back to the room and waited out in the balcony. A cleaner appeared and on entering the room, actually took a step back out of the room because of the strong smell. She then came in and opened all doors and balcony doors. A few minutes later a porter appeared with a gas mask on and came in with a replacement fridge and switched out the old fridge for the new one. He scared the life out of my six year old who didn’t know what was going on. So at this point the hotel send up a porter protected with a gas mask while still leaving a six year old in the room with no protection......

I arrived back at the room shortly after. At this point my daughter was falling asleep. I was very distressed when I heard what had happened as was my other child. I phoned reception and asked that we change rooms immediately. I was told that this was not possible but they would send up the cleaner again to “clean” the room. When the cleaner appeared a second time I asked her to leave as cleaning the room would not solve the problem. I phoned reception again asking that we be allowed to change rooms as the odour was still very evident and I was really upset as I couldn’t tell if my daughter was just tired due to the traumatic events taking place or if it was because she had been coupled up in a hotel room with a fridge leaking ammonia. Reception told us that the manageress was off duty and that there were no rooms available to change. A staff member called Pedro came up to the room with absolutely no empathy. He stated that if the hotel didn’t know that there was an issue, how could they be expected to resolve it when I advised that the smell had been there from the start. My reply was that a. We didn’t want to bother anyone and we were happy to just use one fridge and that b. The room was only just cleaned before we got the keys so had the cleaner opened the fridge it should have been apparent that something was wrong due to the strange odour coming from the fridge. He also stated that this had never happened in the hotel before. In hindsight I doubt this very much given how quickly the porter arrived up with a gas mask on. He came in stating that he could smell nothing......and that why can’t we just close the connecting door to which we replied that we had already informed the hotel that the interconnecting door had been open since we had arrived at the hotel and that the odour was in both rooms. He still insisted that there were no rooms. I informed him that we were contacting the holiday reps and if there was no room in that hotel, then we were moving hotels. At this his stage both of my kids were now crying and I was really upset.

We rang the holiday rep company who contacted the hotel on our behalf. We were still all out on the balcony at this stage and it was now about nine o clock at night. Pedro did appear again and said that they had found another room but the four of us would have to stay in the one room and they would review the situation in the morning. He said that they were preparing the room by adding in 2 camp beds for the girls and would let us know when the room.
After waiting out on the balcony for a further hour and a half we had to ring the holiday rep company again advising that as a family we were still out in the balcony. Pedro appeared again and he was quite abrupt now. He stated that the room had been ready and that it was his understanding that quote “it was agreed that when one of you would casually walk past reception i.e. to get a drink at the bar, you would ask for the new room key”.....I was shocked at hearing this...as if in the midst of this, we as parents were going to go for a drink. This was the last conversation we had with Pedro.

For the reminder of the holiday not once did the manageress of the hotel or any other management try to apologise for what happened which I find shocking as I dread to think what might have happened if my husband and little girl had fallen asleep in the room given that there was no ventilation as we had switched off the air con.

I am attaching photos taking of the two fridges in the rooms which we were moved to. They are in an appalling state and the colour of the tube in each fridge suggests that it is only a matter of time before this happens again....and next time maybe the holiday makers might not be so lucky.

We stayed in the family room, which is basically 2 rooms interconnected, plenty of room for the wee man (25 months) to tire himself out in the evenings.. Wi-fi was first class for the older 2 kids (14 & 9). This hotel is the cleanest I've been to in memory.. room cleaned every day, very clean downstairs & a member of staff wiping down the jungle gym pirate ship every evening. Breakfast is buffet style, it's 100% and fills a hole, bar menu also is good but nothing to really mention (salad good). I found the staff friendly and very helpful and I have to mention the evening bar staff who were a joy and very friendly. Entertainment each night was good. The singer's on 2 nights i thought were excellant. All in all we loved our stay and will be definatly be back in a couple of years once the wee man can enjoy the water park, go early, show wristband and don't que In to the facility, don't get a photo taken and have planned 3 rides a day to do.. it gets very busy and warm very quickly. Book villamora taxis or uber. Oh and the hotel pools are good and really clean. Masseuse is also good value wifey says.. see you all again

A reasonably good hotel. One of the first things we unfortunately encountered was, having been awake since 4am (with young kids) to get a 6am flight, we arrived at 11am with all our bags but the rooms are apparently not ready until 4pm! It would have been helpful to know about this JET2 at time of booking.

That said, Staff friendly enough and showed us a locker room so we could unpack some bits and go to the water park with our cases locked up behind reception. As it was the staff had rooms ready by 230pm for us which was great.

Indoor heated pool an absolute bonus (as kids found outdoors cold at times) and outdoor pool was good size. Hotel capacity seemed small so no problems with getting sun loungers and tables to sit at.

Located About 200m walk to AquaShow Park which was excellent. Main rides minimum heights 1.4-1.2m but still had plenty at 1.15-1.0m and then they had two decent sized splash pools with LOTS of 'non height limit slides' which were still big in size. The kids preferred the splash pool areas within the aqua park.

You need a locker key for the aqua park for which 10euros is taken and 5euros returned - per day.... Suggest just holding onto the key to save a few quid like other have said. The water temperature was NOT warm (even in late July) when we went so be prepared!

Hotel play area For kids is a couple of slides on a pirate ship. They also had Mini goals, water polo and kids archery but this was quite ad hoc.

Accommodation was fab. We had interconnecting rooms which were large in size, balcony each and with a bathroom in each. A/C was strong and manually controllable. There was a mini bar style fridge in each room but, quite surprisingly, no kettle or tea/coffee facilities.... You had to borrow a kettle for 10euro deposit but even then they didn't give you coffee sachets or tea bags/milk- not even for sale or at breakfast as they had barista style machines. Had to go to local lidl to get supplies on day we arrived. This was a cab ride about 16euro return so we stocked up on the one trip. It's 3km one way.

'Green top' cabs are much cheaper than the hotel cabs (ie metered cabs)

Hotel had one bus per day for free that went to Quarteira/Vilamoura (20 minutes). It left 9am and returned 430pm but you could get a cab back sooner.

Now my slight gripe: we were half board. dinner was very repetitive and un-adventurous. It's like a competition of how many times they can sneak the same produce on the menu in a week.... First cod n chips, next Portuguese cod, cod flakes in a pie and finally it reaches the salad board. This theme of recycling of food was quite obvious - don't get me wrong it is good to NOT waste food but it's been done far more discretely in other places I've stayed that were of 4* hotel status too.

That said about the dinners, kids were happy enough with the staple kids meals or fish fingers, chicken burgers, pizza chips etc.... And if they're happy then we are too!

Breakfast was the usual full English and mini frankfurters. Fruit selection was lovely... I don't normally eat fruit but even I had loads!

The gym was a recumbent bike, spin bike, two treadmills, two cross trainers weights up to 5kg and a bench. Could do with some machines or heavier weights TBH.

Overall, we had a lovely time and the water park made it for the kids. It was cheap compared to other places and staff were very good and approachable so probably worth the compromise of the food.
