“Neelkanth temple is highly overrated”

It's a crowded temple, so avoid weekends, festivals etc. Takes about an hour to reach from Rishikesh. Road is beautiful, however, the temple is not very approachable. We had to walk a lot. Temple administration does not bother with queue management, which is a big problem with rowdy people barging in causing stampede like situations.

Unless you are very strongly inclined to visit, avoid.

Do you prepared your travel itinerary to Rishikesh and don't add this place then your journey not get complete. Why?? Because without the blessing of Gangadhar, you will not get the blessing of river Ganga.
If you are planning to go to this place then don't go with vehicle. If you really wants to enjoy the journey then start a trek from Ram Jhula Rishikesh and then reach the destination.
While in trek, you will understand why Rishikesh is called the most beautiful location of India. You will see many nature's boon here like wild animals, Water falls and rare and beautiful greenery.
If you are a adventure loving traveler then It is my personal advice to do the trekking in monsoon. In Monsoon, you will get the feeling of man vs wild, here.
Hail to Lord Shiva!!!

Neelkanth Mahadev is a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva high in the Shivalik hills in the Pauri Garhwal district. It takes 1 hr from Rishikesh. The roads are narrow, but the scene is beautiful with the Ganges river flowing in the valley!

As is the norm in any Indian temples, beware of yours and keep your belongings safe. A fair amount of walking and stair climbing is needed to reach the place. If you are traveling with an elderly, make sure you park right at the entrance of the Mandir.
