Pleasant stay

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Jul 21, 2023
Don't be thrown off by the exit number. I-84 and 15 merge and exit 243 pops up quickly. You can see the Comfort Suites sign from the highway. It's the last hotel in a string of hotels. Turn right at the light, then right again, then left to the last hotel. Fortunately, we were not disturbed by highway traffic noise.
One of the two elevators was out of order when we were there. I tried to take the stairs from the lobby up to the 3rd floor, but the stairs go only to the 2nd floor. When you get off the elevator, there is no sign to tell you which direction to go to get to your room. I assumed the low numbers were to my left, but it's the opposite! There is a restaurant attached to the hotel. It's quite a long walk to get to it, but the breakfast was lovely. Comfortable beds.
Date of stay: July 2023
Room Tip: If you are traveling on I-84, don't let the exit number throw you off. I-84 merges with 15.

The beds are good, the sheets and pillows are very nice. The A.C. was weak, we had to turn it to 64 degrees and it was still struggling. We needed to use the business center, what a waste of time. I just wanted to print a few documents. One of the two computers was on and I easily logged on to my email. However, the printer was not connected, so I tried the other computer and it would not turn on. I asked for help at the desk and the lady there told me to email her the documents and she would print them. This was partially successful (not Comfort Suites fault) nevertheless it was very annoying. Breakfast was typical for Comfort Suites, eggs, sausages, potatoes, a waffle maker, bread and bagels for toast, yogurt and some cereals, not great, but the price was right.

Overall a pleasant stay as long as you don't need the business center.

Room tip: Don't count on the business center.

We chose this place because it had one of the more reasonable Memorial weekend mark-ups but still had the amenities (indoor pool, workout center, free breakfast). We were staying in Ogden so we could have breakfast with friends Sunday morning enroute from Arizona to Idaho. Property was a bit challenging to find--along with two other hotels it is tucked away on a back road off 2100 West--but pretty easy access. Nice (if small) room with amenities of microwave, big fridge, in-room coffee (one of my musts), good bed. Clean & comfortable. Many families were using this place as a Memorial Day holiday retreat so we did not brave the "sharks" in indoor pool. I enjoyed the nice health club with good set of free weights in the morning. The hotel restaurant Cactus Red's had modest but good Tex-Mex food for dinner. The next day it served the free hotel breakfast; tricky to figure this out but the large facility easily served 30-40 people that had turned up for a reasonable breakfast of eggs, ham, waffles & breads. Very conscientious server kept the hot food coming and facility nice and clean.

Room tip: If you want to use the pool do not go Memorial Day weekend, it is packed with young families using the property for a M-Day holiday.

Our experience with Choice Hotels has been mixed over the years. Our stay was ok. The room was spacious and clean and the bed was fairly comfortable. The heater was noisy when running. Fortunately we had a western view on the third floor away from the highway so more quiet than the other side.
The breakfast located in adjoining Red Cactus, a very depressing venue, was more poor than our usual Choice Hotel experience due to atmosphere, breakfast options and limited oversight. There were only a couple of hot options including “scrambled eggs” that were not monitored and refilled to meet demand. Oatmeal was limited to instant in packets. Coffee was meh. Bananas were the best part of my breakfast.
It seemed to us that staff was going through the motions but didn’t care. If you can afford to do so, I would suggest to look further for a nicer place to stay.

Room tip: Mountain side room would be beneficial if you are noise sensitive.

We were traveling from British Columbia to Texas and the property had good reviews on TripAdvisor so we tried it. How can Tripadvisor get a hotel so wrong? This was my first impression of a Comfort Suites brand hotel - and probably my last.

The place literally needs to be torn down and rebuilt - it's that much of a dump. The room is not soundproofed at all, constant noises kept waking us up throughout the night, both outside our window, in the hall, and the room next door.

The Value paid was awful. For $100 we had a night at the Comfort Suites Ogden. For $170 the next night we had The Omni Interlocken just outside of Denver. There is NO comparison.

The heater/AC unit was excessively loud to the point we were worried it was about to fail. The water in the shower never got hot, just lukewarm. But finally, the best part of our stay - leaving this dump never to return. Phew.

Pros: Young man at reception desk was knowledgeable and efficient. The hotel and rooms are modern and well appointed.

Cons: Curtain panel detached from track (obviously not reported to Maint.) and boxspring that squeaks loudly at slightest move. But MOST disturbing was discovering a used feminine hygiene product sitting atop the "clean" garbage can liner upon our arrival! This made us question what else had been missed when cleaning. Management needs to implement random spot-checks of rooms after cleaning.
Would not recommend based on this experience.
