While driving around the city at night we crossed he Brazos River and what a delight to see the many changing colors of the Suspension Bridge.

What a cool, historical surprise! The Waco Suspension Bridge was the prototype for the George Washington Bridge in New York, and accommodated cattle drives on the Preston Trail to deliver Texas cattle to the railhead in Kansas in the 1880s.
The amazing thing is that the bridge is still usable. Now, mostly as a launching pad for tortilla tossers who try to land their tortillas on the old railroad bridge piers.
The Waco Suspension Bridge crosses the Brazos River just north of downtown Waco.
A stop here can be 10 minutes or several hours based on your time. Historic area with great view of river below. Parking available right on the street with restaurants and shops within walking distance
What a lovely spot! Ample amount of shade and picnic areas, a large pedestrian bridge, massive longhorn sculptures to climb on, and right on the Brazos River! Well kept besides the neatly tied plastic bags in the railing that were not an eye sore but should be taken down. Many families around. Safe on both sides of bridge.
Great to walk along the river and up on to the bridge. Great bronze statues depicting the cowboy era. There were so many statues! The workmanship is quite impressive to see. Bridge is in great shape to be so old. I guess our tax dollars are at work!
Some may say " it's just a bridge" but it's more than that. There's history to this bridge, a beautiful view of the river and part of Baylor, and of course the sculptures of the cattle drive.
It only takes a few minutes to walk it, but it's worth it.
