Review of Pascha Baan Thai

Pascha Baan Thai
Ranked #15 of 31 Restaurants in Yarra Glen
Price range: US$19 - US$30
Description: Come and enjoy our family owned and run Thai restaurant. Our chef has had 25yrs of experience in cooking traditional Thai food. She comes from the centre of Thailand from a small village, so the ingredients are simple and very traditional, which gives a great flavor, to which we have become well known for. The best Thai food outside of Thailand.

We met friends their for dinner, 6 people in total, after sitting for 15 minutes I had to go and ask for menu's, was given 5 menus so went back and asked for another, people at two other tables so there was no shortage of menus at hand, when we did order they could not tell us if the fish was fresh or frozen, came back 10 minutes later to say they did not have any fish at all! you would think the kitchen would know when they are out of fish and let wait staff know in advance. when the meals did finally arrive there were a few mix ups with wrong rice dishes and one order was for a beef green curry and they brought out chicken green curry, when we said that was not what we ordered, the waitress turned around and as she walked away gave a heavy sigh that the whole table heard if not the whole restaurant. not professional at all. when the beef meal arrived the beef was rock hard, when all of the meals arrived and have to say they were small serves, other than that the meals tasted very nice. one of the things that did turn me off was the plastic table cloths were very dirty, they had been wiped on top but the edges that hung down were covered in dried food, and when I rested my hands on my legs all I could feel was the dried clumps rubbing on the tops of my hands, it was not a good feeling at all, kept on wanting to go and wash my hands all the time. at least they did let us split the bill at the end. Sadly they need to put in a whole lot more effort to make that place work. they did seem to do a good take a way trade but as a sit down place I wouldnt bother at all. we will not be going back there again

What a shame that an average food experience was marred by such poor service.
As we were leaving the waitress apologised, and smiled for the first time all evening, for the long wait time. Apparently two staff didn't show up and they only had one chef on. If we were told this at the start of the meal we could have gone elsewhere or been prepared for the wait but indifferent service throughout the meal just ruined the evening.

When we arrived- no greeting from the waitress who pointed to a table. Restaurant was cold so we all kept our coats on.
After a few minutes the waitress slapped 2 menus ( we were a table of 4) on our table as she went past to take orders at another table- we have yet to see a drinks menu!

After another long wait we ordered entrees and main. The waitress asked if we wanted everything to come at once which we thought was odd- all was revealed later!

We waited around 45 minutes for food- a beef rending and the entree curry puffs arrived- no rice. After 10 minutes, and a query, the rice arrived with the roti and green chicken curry. Minutes later the chicken satay entrees and the noodle dish came out.

The entrees were average but the rendang and green curry were lovely- great quality ingredients and generous serves. Rice was gluey and roti doughy.

Overall a disappointing experience in a restaurant trying to lift it's TripAdvisor profile- signs up asking diners to review them on social media.

We won't be returning or recommending.
The entire situation could have been handled much more professionally, with a smile, and apologies at the start.

I do enjoy this place, but it is always inconsistent with the heat in meals,
is very expensive and ridiculous with the $40 eftpos minimum.

First time visitor to this quaint restaurant. Staff were lovely, food was very good. Enjoyed the ambience and staff understood well when to present food. Menu had a great selection. Well worth a visit.
