We stayed here for one night on a dinner, bed and breakfast deal, which was great value. The castle is beautiful and has lovely grounds. Peacocks roam free around the gardens and we also saw wild rabbits.

The room we were given was quite small, but nicely decorated with all facilities that you would expect. The bathroom was huge and had a gorgeous free standing bath and lovely strong shower.

Dinner was in Bertie's restaurant, which had a nice atmosphere. The food was the best I have ever had as part of this type of deal. One drink and a set menu with three or four options per course were included, but you could choose from other options for a small extra fee, which was good.

We also had a drink in the bar, which was in what seemed to be an old library. The setting was very nice, but it was a shame that they didn't have a cocktail menu.

We paid extra to use the spa and had one treatment each, which was so nice and relaxing. The spa would however benefit from a bit of updating of the decoration.

Service throughout our stay was perfect!

I had an amazing time and it is a shame that we couldn't spend longer at the Castle. I highly recommend this hotel.

Just back from a fantastic break at beautiful Ruthin Castle. We were made to feel so spoilt and very well looked after, especially by Az in the Restaurant and Kenny and Chelsea in The Library bar. Also David Collins the General Manager who made sure we were treated like royalty, and lovely Bex on Reception, always smiling. Can't wait to return in the near future xxx

We stayed here while doing an ancestry tour of North Wales. It is a beautiful place but is a bit rundown and not well maintained. The peacocks were a great pleasure watch. The rooms are very spacious and comfortable. We had a great time here and would visit again.

Ruthin Castle Hotel is unique and set in wonderful surroundings. The town of Ruthin is beautiful and interesting, what with the old gaol and Plasclwyd House. The hotel caters for wedding parties, especially at weekends and if your visit happens to coincide with one then you will take second place. At breakfast the normal guests were shoe-horned into one room and the breakfast buffet was a tight squeeze. Despite having plenty of staff they were constantly running out of bread for the toaster, milk, butter, fried eggs, black pudding etc. There were tables that had not been cleared, cereal dishes piled up on people's tables that had not been taken away and other guests queuing for ages to be seated at a free and clean table whilst the dining room manager and the waiting staff were nowhere to be seen. This was because the staff, although pleasant were poorly trained, seasonal employees who were probably on minimum wage and expecting to work a very long day. The manager should have been keeping an eye on the breakfast room and directing his staff accordingly. Instead he was in the kitchen, possibly helping the chef? I was frustrating. We stayed in the oldest part of the hotel on the third floor and the lift was not working.

Thank you for your comments following a recent stay at the Castle. Sincere apologies that you were disappointed with the presentation and service at breakfast. At weekends and during busy periods we do suggest that residents come down early to avoid the rush that occurs in every hotel between 9.15am and 10.00am. This is something that is out of our control and we do deal with these busy periods to the best of our ability. Our Restaurant team regularly receive the most positive feedback and we appreciate their hard work and dedication. Hopefully, you will have an opportunity to return to stay in the future.

We visited for afternoon tea on a voucher deal. We were a little surprised at the hygeine rating of 2 displayed at the front of the hotel as this seems low for a quality hotel. The room that the afternoon tea was served in overlooked some scruffy flat roofs, and there were dead flies on the windowsill by our table. The food was ok, although the scones were on the hard side as if they had been heated for too long in the microwave. The staff were lovely and very attentive. Usually when we have afternoon tea, we linger over it, but we only stayed for an hour here.

Sincere apologies that you left disappointed following a recent visit to the Castle for Afternoon Tea. As explained in previous responses, we are also disappointed with the low grading and much of it was down to structural issues which have since been actioned in full. Your kind comments about the staff are appreciated. Being local, I hope that you will return in the future to give us an opportunity to redeem ourselves for our failings on your recent visit.
