We had a good stay here, the building is fascinating, with strange huge old furniture on the landings. Our rooms were clean and nicely furnished, the beds were comfortable, the showers had good pressure and the hospitality trays were well-stocked.
The bar was quiet in the evening, staff were friendly and service was prompt. The red wine was good! Checking out took longer than it needed, I felt, as there was only one member of staff on the reception desk and she was a little unsure about the system.
The dining room wasn't open for evening meals when we stayed, but we had full breakfasts, which were very good. I felt they could have included hash browns, but breakfast was still plentiful.
Various craft items or gifts are on sale from local artists or shops. Note that you have to pay cash for these, and hotel staff may not have access to packing material, so if you have a train journey make sure what you buy is robust.More
