Staff were grumpy, and slammed our drinks down.
We had a 10% off the coffee shop voucher and we were told quite abruptly it didn’t apply, with little explanation.
Had coffees but didn’t bother getting food as the staff seemed so disinterested.
Drinks were nice enough, and the setting was pleasant.

We stopped to have an afternoon coffee with the family. We had the choice of indoor or outdoor. The staff served quite quickly and the beverage and cakes were reasonably priced. We weren't rushed at all and it was a nice relaxing place to stop and relax. Parking was also available.

Yes I’d read the reviews and was a little bit worried. There were 21 of us staying for 2 big birthdays . It is a grand hotel and does need some investment . However the staff were great particularly Emma on reception and Vicky in the restaurant . Food was fast and good . We all loved it . Excellent breakfast and good service from the coffee shop staff too. Rooms were very clean and comfortable . Great to have a residents lounge for us all to relax in after dinner. Would I go back . Probably yes and as a previous reviewer stated, those views from the rooms looking out towards the sea are wonderful

The Good
What is good here is really good. The view from our room over the Straits was just lovely, the charming chap who greeted us at breakfast on our second morning was cheery and helpful and I really enjoyed reading the history of the hotel in the rooms information folder-nice touch! The bedding and towels were clean and nice and the bed was comfy.

The Bad.
A couple of the other staff really could benefit some training in hospitality (from Breakfast Chap?). We experienced some examples of downright surly service. We had an impossible to use dressing table in our room with no seating. I had to drag a lounge chair across the room which was so low I had no chance of being able to use the mirror whilst sitting. See picture.

The Ugly.
The wardrobe and dressing table looked as though they had been rescued from a skip. They were battered and not in keeping with the style of the hotel. On opening a cupboard door in the room I was faced with and empty space which had clearly once housed a fridge, but was now a sad shell with cut outs for wires, ventilation etc. As has been said previously, much of the decor is tired, with chipped paint and stained carpets.

I would stay again, but only if I could get a really good rate. At the hotel's rack rate I would have been bitterly disappointed.

Stayed here for 3 nights with friends, having stayed there many times before. Sadly not as impressed this time round. Staff really need some customer service training. They need to be proactive and smiley. No-one seemed customer focussed. Some of the processes - showing your card at the restaurant even when staff recognise you from previous nights is laughable. Whoever decided to keep Christmas lights up the main staircase has obviously no sense of aesthetics, especially as a lovely new carpet has been fitted. Rooms clean and quiet but atmosphere sadly lacking elsewhere.
