During my recent stay in Scotland staying in Bridge-of-Weir we visited Largs for the day. It has a lovely seafront and we really enjoyed walking along the seafront on a chilly but bright day.

The largs promenade is fantastic and most people probably just scratch the surface of it in the main part of town. My recommendation would be to make a day of it!

Starting at the Bean and Leaf we have lunch, then walk up to towards the lifeboat station, that is to the right if you are facing the water. From there, continue up to the river where there is a small boating pond. Enjoy a seat and a view and back down towards the town. Stop for an ice cream at one of the many ice cream stops (Nardinis or Geraldos for those wanting a fancy one). Then, continue the journey down to the left of the ferry terminal. Here you will get lovely views and great fresh air. If you have little ones, you will pass the putting green and park. The park is fine and worth a stop for 20 mins. This it the bit that most people don't do. From the park you can continue going left. This takes you down towards the marina. You will pass the historic pencil (a monument commemorating the battle of largs, when the natives saw off Viking invaders). You will also pass a sandy beach that you could make a stop at. Carrying on further you will get to the marina. This is open to the public and you can pop in and have a look at the boats but most importantly by this time, you can get a meal in Scots or as we like to do a cake and hot drink in the Chandlers café.

Overall this can take a few hours and is time well spent exploring this coast.

We loved the seafront promenade at Largs with its coloured lights and the opportunity to meet other dog-walkers. In fact one thing that really endeared us to this little seaside resort was the number of establishments that welcomed our dogs as well as us! The trip was a sentimental journey for my husband whose mother came from largs and where he spent childhood holidays at his Auntie Mary's B&B.

The walk along the sea front is a must when visiting Largs, it stretches a few miles from the old boating point at one end to The Pencil Point at the other. There is seating along the entire stretch and is a must when visiting Largs

Pleasant day spent at Largs. Walk along seafront on a bright sunny spell. Watching millport ferry docking.
Enjoying sea air and tangle of the isles (smell of seaweed)
