Big River Grille & Brewing Works is a longtime downtown Chattanooga staple that is within easy walking distance of major Chattanooga attractions such as the Aquarium, Ross's Landing, IMAX theater, Creative Discovery Museum and AT&T Park. There is no dedicated parking lot for the restaurant although there is a paid lot directly beside it. There is also metered street parking all around and multiple parking garages nearby. It is part of the Gordon Biersch chain of restaurants. This location is the original Big River location with another Chattanooga location near Hamilton Place Mall and the third in the Disney Boardwalk section of Walt Disney World in Florida.

I have been to Big River numerous times over the years. The most recent visit was on a weekday before a visit to the aquarium. The restaurant is fairly large and we had no wait to be seated. The inside is a nice mix of bricks and wood beams with multiple different seating areas. The food is good but I don't know if I have ever had anything that was outstanding. Our service on this visit was ok but somewhat underwhelming.

I wouldn't rank Big River as one of the best restaurants in downtown but it is a solid option with a great location.

We actually ate here twice (in 24 hours) during our trip to Chattanooga! The food and service were both wonderful. Highly recommend the Pretzel Crusted Chicken, any of the pizzas, or the Shrimp and Lobster Tacos. Save room for dessert! I would recommend making a reservation if you are planning to visit during a busy time.

Just got into town and wanted a quick savory bite with draft beer within walking distance from our downtown hotel. Greeted by gorgeous mural of river, sunset, and hops. High ceilings, overhead wooden beams, red brick walls, and comfy leather booth. Our attentive waiter, Aaron, was patient and tolerant of light teasing of his name - “A-A-Ron”. Surprisingly inexpensive drinks for a downtown tourist location. Ordered the House Brand IPA and Vienna Lager. Juicy 12 oz. ribeye served medium with side of fries and freshly sauteed, not frozen, green beans. Great first meal to kick start a holiday weekend trip.

We ate dinner here when we stopped for the night on our way home to Ohio from Florida. The place is fairly large, with plenty of seating and areas that can be curtained off for private group dining. We were seated and served promptly. Both the drink and food menus were ample, and the server very friendly and helpful. I had the avocado chicken sandwich; it was delicious although a bit messy. My sweetie had the pasta and chicken dish and really liked it. I would highly recommend this place.

Six of us walked over from our hotel. Sat outside which is neat, watched people try to climb the wall. Helpful wait staff. Good beet. Good egg rolls with dipping sauce. Tasty onion rings, tasty burgers, cheesy Caesar salad.
