Owner description: Did you know The designation of DUKW is not a military pun - the name comes from the terminology used for military vehicles in World War II; the D indicates a vehicle designed in 1942, the U meant "utility (amphibious)", the K indicated all-wheel drive and the W indicated two powered rear axles. Although technically a misnomer, DUKWs are often referred to as duck boats. Another popular nickname was old magoo or simply magoo. Though the origin of this term is unknown, it probably refers to the odd shape of the vehicle. DUKWs became known as ''Ducks'' and are still in use, as well as purpose-built amphibious tour buses, primarily as tourist transport in harbor and river cities.

Okay, it was a rainy old day and my companions were a scout troop, so not the most auspicious set-up. If the commentary had been interesting it would have saved the day, but, sadly, not the case. What saved the day was when the captain let us all take a turn driving on the river.

First trip to Chattanooga was awesome. Spring break with grandchildren and it was great. Chattanooga ducks, aquarium , zoo. We stayed at Doubletree Inn. So convenient and staff was the best.

I took my granddaughter and niece (ages 6 and 8) to Chattanooga for Spring Break. We added Chattanooga Ducks to our list of activities. The girls absolutely loved it. Although it was a cold and overcast day, they enjoyed the tour and even got the chance to steer the vessel. Will certainly do again the next time we're in the area. Highly recommended.
