Went to the Key West Grill for happy hour. We were seated in an area where the view was amazing. The restaurant is on the water and had a nice feel. We ended up moving to another area because the people in the both behind us had children who kept jumping around and shaking our booth. I’ve never been in an establishment where the furnishing weren’t sturdy enough to absorb the antics of playful children. We were moved to another area of the restaurant where the view was definitely minimized to the front door and the bar. So much for “panoramic view”.
The happy hour menu options were modest. There were no signature island styled dishes or items that jumped off the page. In fact, the appetizers had nothing to do with island cuisine. They were more TexMex or American dishes. There were, however, enough options to interest a diverse party of 5. It is a clear and definite sign when your server does not eat or drink at the place she is employed. Our server was friendly and very forthright. She made no personal recommendations… only communicated the items that were most commonly ordered. Our drinks came first, and everyone was disappointed. The drinks were poorly made and extremely watered down. Three members of the group sent their drinks back; only to receive replacements that were no better. I suggest you order a bottle beer. It’s hard to get that wrong.
The food arrived and was not appetizing. It was warm but not piping hot and wasn’t good. It was one of those moments where you knew you were going to leave hungry but silently suffered through the experience because you didn’t want to be the one in the group to complain… plus we didn’t want to hurt the person’s feelings who selected the Key West Grill. If there was any bright side, it was the check. Happy hour prices were very reasonable, so no one felt fleeced.
