We were supposed to have gone to HHI in September but Irma got in the way. We rebooked for the week after Thanksgiving with a little hesitancy as we did not know what the weather would be like. We love the beach and pool and knew it would be cooler. We were pleasantly surprised, other than the first day, it was low 70’s high 60’s every day and there was plenty to do at the resort and the area. The main resort is on a marsh and we requested a marsh view which was pretty to see the tide coming in and out as well as the wildlife. The rooms were clean and well stocked with kitchen utensils, towels and sundries. We had a two bedroom which gave plenty of privacy for us and another couple. The staff were so friendly and went out of their way to make us feel welcome.

The buildings surround a central area that have games - large checkers, bocci, corn hole, shuffle board. Every night they show a Disney movie. The main lodge has a pool table as well as ping pong. You can rent bikes, take a kayak tour and have other activities. The pools were heated to about 80 degrees. When the sun was out, you can enjoy them. They have organized games and events throughout the day - trivia, nature walks, etc. The lodge has free coffee throughout the day and in the afternoon about 3 PM they bring out fresh cookies and hot apple cider - yummy.

If you want the beach, they have a shuttle that takes you to their beach house or you can bike or drive about a mile away. The Beach house has another pool and an indoor seating area with a TV and tables to play games. It also has a pool table, foosball, ping pong and other games. There is a bar and snack bar which is open during their busy season but at this time of year, it is only open Friday to Sunday. There are steps down to the beach but you need to bring your own chairs as the rentals are gone for the season. We grabbed a couple of towels from the pool area to sit on. It would be great if the resort rented chairs for your stay.

One of the issues is the hotel has no sit down restaurant or bar in the main area. They have a snack bar where you can order breakfast or lunch and they have a mercantile store that sells some food, wine, beer, clothing, souvenirs and sundries. Apparently Disney had to forgo a restaurant to get the approval to open the resort. The town did not want to take away business from the restaurants in Shelter Cove which is directly across the marina, about a 10 minute walk. There are some very nice restaurants there and at this time of year, you do not need a reservation.

It is so pretty and lots to keep you busy. Worth a visit even in the off season.

Disney-Parks-Resorts, Brittany, Disney Social Reviews at Disney's Hilton Head Island Resort, responded to this reviewResponded 18 December 2017

My, oh my! Thanks for the enchanting review! I’m pleased to see your family was able to weather the storm and find a better time to visit Hilton Head after Hurricane Irma. Here, southern hospitality meets that Carolina charm that makes a visit to Hilton Head unlike anything else.

And everyone knows while a Resort can be surrounded by beauty and magic, it truly is the Cast that make it a home away from home. I’m elated your trip was filled with the Disney pixie dust everyone has come to know and love.

You’ve given some incredible tips to our other Guests here, from listing amenities galore to making wonderful suggestions for where to dine in the neighboring town, there’s something for everyone to learn about and hopefully add to their next stay. It’s always wonderful when Guests share such a great perspective of their visit.

We hope to “sea” you back for another breezy visit in sweet South Carolina real soon.

My husband surprised me with a long weekend here for my 40th birthday. We had our four kids with us (ages 6, 8, 12, & 14). The staff are amazingly friendly. We aren't picky or demanding people so I can't say if they are shockingly accommodating but we were happy with everything.
I don't know if they have more open in the summer months but we were kept busy for three days. We did a few of the free excursions and paid for the dolphin cruise which was a great time too.
We did leave the island one day for a day trip to Savannah (about an hour's drive away). And we never did hit the beach because it was too chilly. The pool is heated though so if you could hustle from your room to the pool, you were fine once you got there!

From the moment we pulled up to the gate and the first "Welcome Home" we were treated like family. Everyone was friendly, receptive, and aimed to please. Mike the Pool Guy took us on a 2 -1/2 hour to the Gullah region (North HIlton Head) and I learned so very very much. He was personable, knowledgable, and gave us information about the region and its people that we will never forget. Betty rode with him. Our housekeepers and grounds people were so nice and did their jobs with smiles all around. The craft women who assisted us in making tie-dyed shirts was excellent. They took their time to help us do it correctly. Everything was MAGICAL as promised.

We could not have asked for anything more here. Disney’s HH provided us with everything we needed for our trip; a fully stocked, roomy 1 bedroom condo, easy access to bike rentals, and they printed our boarding passes for us too! There is plenty for families to do here. Can’t wait to return!

We just spent the weekend celebrating our son’s 7th birthday with several other families, and can’t say enough great things about the Disney Beach Resort. The rooms were great, clean and spacious. Housekeeping went above and beyond and cleaned up our dishes after a brunch we cooked. The pool area is great and the staff is so friendly and helpful. We’ll definitely be back!
