Our family had the best time in this property. Coming from the pandemic, admittedly, there were some challenges e.g., private boat to bring us from Caticlan to Carabao Island, roadwork enroute the property, limited food choices, yet, the staff made it up to us with good service, warm smiles, and overall friendly and homely stay. We miss waking up to the sound of the ocean in front of our villa. It was a very quiet vacation indeed. We had some challenges too with the wifi given that we were working and studying during our first week. Yet, we were able to make it through the help of the property. Admittedly, as the resort is in a quiet island, there will be challenges with internet and phone signals. If you so decide to stay here, be prepared to rough it up, have a quiet time with family, rest, and enjoy the wonderful beaches of Carabao Island. Thank you Ocean's Edge for taking care of our family amidst the challenges. We appreciate it!

Room tip: We stayed at the Maharlika rooms.

I have nothing but good words for this Luxury resort yet humble and at reasonable price.

Place: The place itself is serene, surrounded with trees and big rock formations. Every spot is picture perfect no need for filter 👌 I love the birds flying around.

Amenities: All amenities are well maintained. Infinity pool is superb.🏊‍♂️

Food: Foods are freshly served from their farm and is prepared with love 🍲❤️

Rooms: Insanely huge and very relaxing with complete room FACILITIES.

Lastly,
Staff: Very accommodating and respectful. They will treat like a King or Queen. They will make sure that your stay will be memorable. Kudos to Bryan, Jisrelle and the rest of the team, could no longer remember their names.🤔

Booked and paid for 2 months in the presidential villa and invited 14 overnight guests between 2-7 days.
My booking was from February 1 until March 31, 2021 and I moved out 10 days early without a refund.

Pro:
Spectacular location
New facilities
Friendly staff

Con:
The lady and the gentleman who remotely manage the resort from Manila and Cebu have zero experience how to build, maintain and run a resort. They hired people without any hospitality experience, the general manager was a former housekeeping manager.
Result: My guests and my family had food poisoning because the kitchen was never properly cleaned nor was there anybody who checks the food or kitchen staff. The manager got drunk while my guests were here and he double booked my reserved villas. Some guest villas had no AC and service for my guests was so chaotic that I ended up taking care of everything myself, from organising to get the villas cleaned to making sure there was toilet paper in the bathrooms. In the restaurant, they served a cake and one of my guests found a bit of metal wire inside the cake where previously a candle was attached. He was afraid that he may have swallowed a piece of wire. We asked the staff where they buy their cakes and they said other guests brought a cake for a birthday party and this piece was a left over! Fortunately, my guest was fine and got lucky since he found the metal wire before he swallowed any.

When I finally announced my departure, the lady and the gentleman from the board sent me threats.

I think if the investors in the resort replaced the board and hired experienced hospitality management, this could be one of the most beautiful experiences in the Philippines.

Warning: One of my guests is a construction engineer and made me and my guests aware that we must not enter the cliff terrace in front of the restaurant because it has a severe structural problem (walk on it and you will feel how it moves up and down). The board was aware of it and allowed any guests and groups to use it anyway, and even dance on it, which is extremely dangerous.

I just came across a lot of old positive reviews - possibly from people who were invited to stay for free during the opening period - and I decided to leave my comments although it has been a while ago that I stayed there. People cannot see behind closed kitchen doors and I had full kitchen access during my entire stay, and it was definitely a health hazard to eat there. Until someone with restaurant experience cleans up and properly handles food, and until someone with hospitality experience manages the rest, this resort should be avoided.

Hopefully, the people who invested in this resort check what's going on there and come to their senses. A few examples: The cheap wood used for construction is already rotten, therefore cliff walkways and villa roofs need to be renovated. All bikes are broken because they are left outside, staff uses oily mops that ruin expensive curtains and then replace them with curtains from empty villas. Cliff villas are not locked and people vandalize them, friends of staff members come and go, the manager's chained dog in the kitchen area barked continuously because nobody wanted to walk her, a staff member accommodated a rooster in a villa that made a lot of noise (it's too obscure to make this up), algae in the pool area was not removed and the pool water turned green, the expensive luxury van is not properly cared for, and many of the villas need to be renovated inside because windows and doors have been left open since nobody cares.

I was planning to rent the entire resort during the pandemic and the sole reason why I left was the incompetent board who was so rude to me that I advised everyone I know not to visit in the future. Without the board and with proper management, I would probably still be at Ocean's Edge today.

If you consider staying or eating at Ocean's Edge, inspect the kitchen, freezers, refrigerators, stoves and food preparation areas first.

My review only covers the tip of the iceberg.

Oceans Edge Resort, Marketing at Ocean's Edge Resort, responded to this reviewResponded September 9, 2021

Mr. Ricard Oliver Stumpf malicious review is aimed at the owners of the resort (his Pros:- spectacular location, new facility, and friendly staff). He did not receive threats before his departure, he was told that he would not be allowed to check out if his account for ancillaries was unpaid, reasonable for any resort. What he perceives as being rude is having to continually ask to keep to his agreed payment schedule, not allowing him to cordon off part of the resort (so no one could walk past the villa and see him naked) and our refusal to allow him to hold a staff meeting amongst other equally bizarre requests. If he had requested to stay after the 31st of March the answer would have been no.

The most obvious question would be WHY DID HE STAY 2 MONTHS ? I received a call from a previous guest advising that we should consider not accepting him as a guest as he had been asked to leave by at least 2 resorts on Tablas Island. We should have heeded that advise. There are a few elements of his review that are correct regarding the manager which we became aware off during the Covid lockdown and why he is no longer there.

The most malicious aspect of the review is the title “FOOD POISONING” this is a serious charge which would have required medical attention and should have been reported to the local health unit, there is nothing. Mr. Oliver claims to have extensive experience within the hospitality industry, and you would expect that food poisoning would be important to report immediately and not left until August 5 months after he checked out !

He did not stay in the presidential villa, he paid for 2 months and stayed for 2 months (1st Feb to 31st March 2021) not conceivable that he left with 10 days still owing as he checked out on the 31st of March. It is unfounded to accuse the owners of the resort as having no experience of management or construction. His review also insults the integrity of guests who have made genuine reviews by suggesting they are from people who stayed free of charge. The review is intended to harm which TripAdvisor states is not outside their guidelines, so owners beware.

I could go on and nit pick all his comments, his stay was during the Covid lockdown of Carabao Island, we were operational with a skeleton staff of which he was aware at the time he made his booking. In fact, he said he did not need our staff as he would bring his own staff (never happened). An email from Mr. Stumpf dated 10th March ““My wife and I continue to be very satisfied with our stay at Ocean's Edge and we would like to make long-term plans with you, even with Covid”, this does not agree with his review.

There are personal reason totally unrelated to the resort or any member of staff for his tirade in August. His tirade is vindictive which should be obvious from previous genuine reviews and the fact that he stayed for 2 months.

Any tourist considering staying at Oceans Edge Resort should contact the Department of Tourism on Carabao Island for their comments about the resort

1st class facility and service, but food prices are the same as in the States, plus the private beach front is only good for scenery and sit by a picnic table and walk along the shore but that's it. NO swimming can be safely done with the rocks and coral growth. One needs to travel to another established beach elsewhere on the island.

We took a one day sightseeing tour from Boracay to Carabao, We were not planning to stay and ending stay 3 days in the island. What a great place!. We stay at the Ocean edge resort fabulous. Very quite village, great people, we were taking moto-taxis to ride around the island. Definitely we are going back. Unspoiled beaches, quite, very nice not much to do at night but if you are looking for a place to relax this is it.

Room tip: I stay at the villas in front of the beach. very private, balcony is big.
