We were most surprised to find an unusual and impressive museum in the Armory -- and much more than military. Besides local memorabilia and local militaria, the museum showcases important pieces from Rhode Island's and the nation's history. One of the best parts is the tour -- because we had the opportunity to see almost all of the Armory building itself - from (and we learned this) the headhouse to the drill hall -- to the tower - to the giant cellar. The mannequins (and there are many) display not only the uniforms of local veterans but wedding gowns and the ladies of the community who have had influence in fashion and politics. We particularly enjoyed being taken around to see the highlights and then we could go back to peruse the collections. We will go back. Don't miss the cellar; it's not finished but it's amazing. Our group ranged in age from 6-75 and all found something of interest.
