we live in Pittsburgh and have friends whose parents come from Ohiopyle and they still have a house there. We go there regularly to hunt, run, and relax. This time we took a fly fishing course with with Wilderness Voyagers. Fly fishing is one of those things that we had been meaning to try out for decades and when our friends suggested it, we immediately said yes. Our instructors where three very different people (all great teachers and enjoyable company) lead by Christa. I never tried out fly fishing because I wasn't sure I could do it (it doesn't involve a ball and I am an old dude). It turned out that we all reached a level where it becomes an immensely enjoyable experience in a few hours. We all bought a rod after the course (very reasonably priced and one gets 10% off) and Christa gave us flies for free. We also got memory sticks with photos and videos of us for free. If you find fly fishing interesting, don't push it further out because you miss out on a wonderful hobby that gets you closer to nature all-ear round. We will go back to Ohiopyle with our rods and fly fish on the banks of one of the many creeks (the team gave us tips where to go) in the middle of the forest. I have a suspicion that I might like fly fishing better than hunting and I have been a passionate hunter for over 30 years. The zen-like quality of the line snaking in the air and the tranquil beauty of the laurel-covered banks of a creek are quite awe-inspiring. The more people are in your group, the cheaper it gets. Fill a car with friends or family and start a beautiful new passion.

This was our 2nd trip with Wilderness Voyageurs and we can’t wait for the next one! We had a fantastic time with Mark and Dave leading us through the beautiful Kentucky countryside riding the rolling hills, seeing horses everywhere, tasting some bourbon, and having fun with our new friends! All the hotels were unique and fabulous and everything was taken care of so all we had to do was have a wonderful time.

I have gone on many Wilderness Voyageurs trips. This time we went out for opening day. We went for the opening day special. The weather was very cold but that didn't slow down our good time. Our guide was fun (Tom). Hearing his stories about becoming a raft guide were interesting. Generally the guides provide corny jokes after the rafting but it seems they have cut that out.

Got to shoot down the Upper Yough with a grizzled man of a guide on the first dam release of the season! Stellar time of heart thumping, rushing river, nature absorbing, classic fun. If your around these parts, 100% take a day to voyage it through the wilderness of Appalachia with these folks!

A shout out to tour guide Mark who helped us repair a blown bike tire in Easton, MD on his day off from leading a group. What a nice guy and a great representative for the Wilderness Voyageurs company. He gave us a catalog of available trips and we will definitely look into booking a tour in 2022!
