As I walked up the stairs of this hotel, memories stirred of my old boarding school, so I was delighted to hear Ballina Manor started life in the '20s as an Anglican girls school. No lino floors, cold porridge or single iron beds to be seen, thankfully, as sweet as those memories may be.
The hotel is decorated authentically with antique wardrobes, dressers, chests of drawers and trunks and our bathroom had been tastefully renovated with white tiles with an Art Deco trim.
We ordered room service for dinner; tender, thick fillet steaks perfectly cooked with an assortment of vegetables.
The hotel has a "pillow menu" which is thoughtful but the one that was already on the bed was fine. Our room had French doors that led out to a wide verandah that looked on to the pretty courtyard.
We enjoyed a comfortable and quiet stay at Ballina Manor and I recommend it, especially for those people who like an old fashioned property that has been sympathetically restored to the period in which it was built.More
