We spent a wonderful week at the Carlyon Bay at the end of July, and loved every minute of it. Yes, the first impression might not be great as the Art Deco facade looks a little dates but once inside, everything changes. The lobby and the bar area is airy and spacious and the views out onto the gardens and the sea are spectacular. It is worth booking the superior rooms facing the sea as opening the curtains in the morning with that view is pure joy. They may not be the largest of hotel rooms but at the end of the day, we hardly spent any time I doors thanks to the gorgeous weather.

The food at the Bayview restaurant is is superb with a lot of choice using the finest local ingredients, and the staff go out of their way to ensure that all dietary requirements are catered for.

The heated pool is simply marvelous, really delectable for a swim or just a dip on a sunny day. The golf course as well as the mini golf by the terrace are both great fun with the gold course really well maintained.

The hotel is within walking distance (the coastal path) to both Carlyon Bay beach ( wide sandy beach with live bands most of the evenings) and Charlestown, the quaint little town where Poldark was filmed.

The hotel also has a spa which we did not manage to explore - too many other things going on but it did look very professional. There is also a kid's club and we did see a magician put on a show for the kids in the hotel grounds. He had all the children mesmerised.

We really loved our stay at Carlyon Bay. I think our son summed it up the best, when he said: "If this is what Cornwall is like, who needs Spain".

We booked Carlyon Bay as a last minute trip and the hotel was superb, amazing location. Food in the Bayside restaurant was delicious which kept us dining at the hotel and our room (superior) ticked all the right boxes.

Great staff, wonderful location and a brilliant spa (two great heated pools), really comfortable beds cannot overcome missing basics, that are shamefully neglected in a hotel offering luxury style accommodation.

Dreadful WiFi (I mean - really dreadful), noisy kitchen fans running till late can be heard at least on one side of the building, (sounds like being on a plane), no air-con other than in some of the premium rooms and no fridges in the rooms. Single rooms are claustrophobically small.

These are mentioned, not to put you off, it is otherwise a great hotel (especially its staff, the best I've encountered in the UK), so, these missing facilities should not be a deal breaker. But it is worth noting their absence. It is an hotel offering accommodation at a premium price point, but missing basics such as these, in this day and age are a glaring omission.

But, oh boy, the wonderful staff...

Thank you for your 4 star review and that you found our staff so wonderful. Unfortunately, not all of our rooms do have air-con due to the age and design of the building and this is something that does get improved on year on year. The layout of the building also affects the size of all of our rooms. I am sorry that you found the wifi lacking as this is something that we do not usually receive negative feedback on. We hope to be able to welcome you back in the future to visit our wonderful staff!

We had a wonderful week long stay at this lovely hotel.
Staff were always friendly, helpful and attentive.
Restaurants had a varied choice of food on the menu’s, which was well cooked.
The FunZone children’s club had excellent and attentive staff.
The entertainment for both adults & children was varied and excellent.

Today we went for lunch/bar snack at the clubhouse. Setting is pleasant - clubhouse is comfortable. Has improved significantly under the stewardship of Peter who it was lovely to see again. Well done - keep standards high as I’m sure you will!
