Wow, what a find this place is! Outside the central core of downtown Portland, it is well worth the bus ride or short drive. It is located in a nice residential neighborhood, upstairs, on the 'second story' above a happening local coffee house which is run by the same people. It is a nice Victorian house, with the restaurant a series of intimate rooms that spill into each other but also make nice nooks. The head chef and proprietor made her name at one of the hottest downtown restaurants before striking out on her own with this venture. What a success! The place was buzzing with atmosphere when we visited. Very fun in the evening. The service was homey and excellent. The food is startlingly good and interesting, even for food-geeks like my wife and me. Ian, the young second chef, was on a bender creating a huge assortment of pickled veggies, all done differently for totally different tastes and textures. And beautiful. That's just the appetizer, brought out like bread. Oh yeah, Ian bakes the bread fresh as well--fantastic. The main dishes were all delicious and different, each something new and intriguing. I can't say enough good about this place. On top of everything, they have an ethic of bringing top end food to regular people, so the prices are reasonable to boot.
