I frequently visit the Rocky Boot Outlet and have been wanting to ride the Hocking Valley Train for more than a few years now. In October I finally got to ride the train during their Halloween themed event for my birthday. There were a lot of kids around in costumes. It was very cute. They played a Halloween soundtrack to put everyone in a scary mood. Before you got on the train, you were able to purchase hotdogs, chips and soda from a table on the sidewalk. I fully took advantage.

The ride was really nice. It was not super scenic but it had more than a few moments. There was some water and farm land and some houses. I enjoyed it. The sounds of the train alone are relaxing. We watched the sunset from an open air car. It was beautiful. Before we turned around, to fit the theme of the ride, they pretended the train broke down for a short period to amuse the kids. It was cute. I am glad I got to experience this railroad. They have events all the time for holidays as well as regular rides all year long. It is a cool day date or family activity.

Thanks Kristin. We are glad you enjoyed our event. We try to live up to our "family friendly train rides" theme all season long.
Please plan on returning to ride our other themed trains throughout our 2018 season.

This was a horrible experience, the train broke, we were the only ones on the train of African American decent. Only one person spoke, the egg hunt was a joke, never again.

Wow! We feel that this review is very unfair. Our train did not breakdown, we were late leaving our depot because of late arriving passengers who we waited for. As far as ethnic passengers, we of course have no bias toward who rides our trains, if you pay your fare, you ride our train. Lastly, we feel that the egg hunt and whole event was as advertised in our publications and social media. This review was only one of two that were negative, as our trains carried eight hundred passengers that day.

We feel that this is not a fair review. The event was advertised as an Easter Train with a stop for an egg hunt and the Easter Bunny. It is our feeling that we delivered as advertised in our print media and social media. Our coaches were in fact heated, unless you sat in our open air cars? Don’t quite know what you mean by “riding in reverse”. Riders are free to choose their own seating – facing forward or backward is your choice.

A two hour 20 mile round trip to celebrate New Year's Eve. We went on the wine and cheese car. Wine was from Ravens Glen winery. Also the glasses, which were a keepsake of the evening. They also had party hats, beads, and noise makers. Fireworks at midnight were a lot of fun! Looking forward to going on some of the other excursions offered during the warmer months.
