If you're looking for places to bike or jog with variety, this isn't the place. But it's a well-maintained flat, straight, paved trail that's great for getting in training mileage or just taking a stroll, with or without dog. I wish they would build tunnels under the busy roads (like Dublin and Olentangy Trail does) because though the cross walks are well-marked where the path crosses over busy Avery, Leppert, and Hayden Run Roads, I don't completely trust the traffic flying by at 40-60 mph

Located on Hayden Run Rd, just past Cosgray Rd on Border Line of Hilliard and Dublin, OH. YOU CAN"T MISS IT! In addition to the Dog Run and Play area that is divided for what ever reason, my guess is for large or small dogs as i see this appears to me. Very up scale place with great Lawn Care, no trash anywhere, great parking and Friendly People Frequent the place. VERY SAFE for the dog and owner.

This trails is not as long as some of the other trails around Columbus so it is a great beginner trail for riders looking to get under 15 miles. It is straight, flat and the scenery is a little tedious especially as the housing boom continues. If you are a runner it is a great place to train for 5 and 10ks.

The downside of this trail is the high traffic. Don't take me wrong I love a used trail, but with the parks along this trail you will have a lot of people so you must be very careful both as a rider and runner. Too often I have seen 20 mph riders on this trail which is too fast for a trail like this. Keep your speed under 15 miles an hour and you should be ok. There are kids and dogs being walked on this trail too.

Overall this trail is great for beginners, but just be careful and be respectful of those around you. Stay off this trail if you plan to ride fast, there are much better and safer options for you.

The Heritage Trail is my go-to when I just want to put in some quick miles on the bike without worrying about traffic or the congestion on the Olentangy Trail.

The trail runs from Old Hilliard almost to Plain City (there are vague plans to eventually connect it to Plain City, but for now you need to ride on the roads if you want to go all the way into PC). It's very flat and very straight. There are a few road intersections, but it's usually pretty easy to get across. Closer to Hilliard and around the Hayden Run dog park it's a little more crowded, but nothing like the Olentangy. It's rare on this trail to have to slow down and wait for oncoming traffic to go around a jogger or slower cyclist. That's why it's a nice no fuss trail. It's also a good place to bring folks who are just starting to ride a bike again.

The trail starts out going through subdivisions and then goes through farmers' fields. None of the scenery is spectacular, but it's pleasant.

I always park at the Old Hilliard end and do the trail that way. You can also park at a couple of the other trailheads. Some people bike all the way in from Columbus/UA but I'm not brave enough to tackle Fishinger Road on my bike. There are some restaurants and cafes in Old Hilliard for post-ride refreshments.

If you're just visiting Columbus I'd hardly put the Heritage Trail in the "must visit" category. But if you're staying on that side of town and looking for a place to get some exercise, or you live here and want to go for an easy bike ride, it's worth checking out.

I often run on the Heritage Rail Trail. Bicycling with young children is okay but if you're a serious cyclists, stay away. The path can get crowded with walkers, young children and roller bladers. Cycling too fast will put everyone's safety in jeopardy.
