Description: Hursey Seafoods, based in Stanley Tasmania, is a major catcher of the renown Southern Rock Lobster (crayfish). Patrons can purchase a range of seafoods; wholesale, takeaway or dine-in for lunch or tea. In 1974 James Snr and Valerie Hursey relocated from Dover (Sth East Tasmania) to Stanley (Nth West Tasmania). In 1987, to complement a growing company fishing fleet, a commercial factory/takaway/dine in premises was established as a memorium to James Snr and Valerie's son, Patrick, who was lost at sea attempting to rescue an adventurer, rowing across Bass Strait. In June 2015, the property was extensively renovated and now seats 100 diners, overlooking the bay and nestled under the Stanley Nut. Hursey Seafoods' fleet of nine vessels catches Southern Rock Lobster, Giant Crab, Stipey Trumpeter, Gummy Shark, flathead and other local reef fish. Lobster is retained live in sea tanks on premises, which ensures supply all year and provides consumers with the very best taste. Hursey Seafoods is open every day, apart from Christmas, for lunch and dinner. Takeaway open: 11.00 AM to 7.00 PM Sun - Thu, 11.00 PM to 7.30 PM Fri & Sat Restaurant open: 12.00 PM to 2.30 PM (seated by) & 5.30 PM to 8.00 PM (seated by)

I've been here several times before with no issues. But this visit seemed quite rushed. The seafood chowder was very disappointing. The seafood basket was great. We had questions about the bill as it seemed over what we thought. This was not resolved and we paid. We later realised we had been charged for an extra glass of wine. Sadly it might be awhile before we go back.

The take away is a little expensive, but the quality of the meals we’ve had there have been good both times we have been.

The decor is rather plain and unimaginative, but the food is excellent and service friendly & competent. Most is caught on their own ship, or locally sourced. A wee bit pricey, but still good value for money. We had the baby abalone (farmed locally), the seafood chowder, and the tasting platter, all well prepared & presented. Best abalone I have ever had.

The food experience at Hersey’s was a truly memorable one for our group. With multiple dishes ordered ranging from, seafood chowder, chicken schnitzel, surf n turf, oysters kilpatric and crayfish were faultless. If you are up for wonderfully presented and tasty well cooked meals than you must try this restaurant.

We didn't have a reservation, but the restaurant was quite close to where we were staying, so we turned up at 5.45 and they had a table available. The emphasis is on seafood, which isn't my most preferred food, but there were other options on the menu. Service was fast & efficient.

The seating is all upstairs and layout was odd, with tables well spread and lots of vacant space. With the western sun streaming in through the large windows it must have been really uncomfortable for people who got seated by the windows.

The food was quite good, but prices are quite high. Service & presentation of food was reminiscent of a suburban Chinese takeaway. We noticed that they cater for tour groups in a separate room as quite a large group came in while we were finishing up. They must have pre-ordered as most of the staff were engaged with dealing with them when we were settling our bill.

We would be unlikely to bother going back. While the food was fine, the ambience was poor and the price high.
