Description: The Stag Inn is a lovely, country pub set in the beautiful village of Balls Cross in Petworth. The menu changes on a weekly basis and all their products are sourced locally. With traditional log fire and award winning Badger ales - a warm welcome and great food is assured.

Travelled all the way from Cambridge to meet family - and the place made it up for the drive. A traditional pub setting with a cosy atmosphere and a nice fire -- we expected the occasional "pub grub" and were thoroughly surprised with the quality. The halloumi wrapped in bacon opened for an excellent Sunday roast beef, very well-served and cooked to the point. The staff is incredibly welcoming and made us feel at home. A few rounds of darts and the hours went by quickly...

Definitely one of the best pubs in the region.

you really feel you are stepping back in time when you walk I to The Stag Inn. Except back in the old days the food probably wasnt as good! . The pub is a little in the middle of nowhere but that is what adds to its charm. A really nice place and well worth a visit.

Firstly, the staff here are warm and welcoming and the setting is a lovely little pub in the country. We had been before and enjoyed it but sadly not so much this time round.

It was really cold inside I’m not usually a cold person but was freezing where I was sat.

Secondly parts of the food sadly weren’t great. The batter the Brie was in wasn’t crispy and it didn’t taste very nice and the mains weren’t great either. The beef itself was lovely, but the vegetables were pretty much raw and the cauliflower came in this white watery substance which wasn’t nice at all sadly. And my husbands left most of his fish and chips as the batter and the chips were both soggy and not great.

I’m not one for writing negative reviews, especially when the staff were so lovely and I’m really hoping that we caught the kitchen on an off day as from memory our last meal there had been good. Hopefully this will give an opportunity to get what was wrong right and in the future the food will be much improved.

Small, quirky and welcoming. What’s not to like? Full of real charm and friendly locals with their dogs. Think flag floors, low doors and wooden furniture. And an outside gents...
We called in for a quick drink and a sandwich recently and sat by the open fire. It was lovely. Good service and good food. A very pleasant break which left us all smiling. The Landlord could not have been more helpful or friendly.

This is a superb old world pub, it has a big open fire and the bar is full of character with ornaments to match. The staff friendly and efficient. There a specials board also a full menu. The food is of a good quality and fresh, even the local gamekeeper can be seen enquiring what "game " is required One thing gentlemen must remember is the loo is on the outside.
