We had a delightful Sunday lunch in the Stags Head inn, which is nestled in a charming valley 10 minutes off the A303. Most pub Sunday lunch fare is run of the mill and nothing exciting, but all three of us found our dishes quite exceptional; very fresh, with subtle flavours and exceptional attention to detail.

Top notch food in a lovely setting.

We dined here as a family and the food was extremely good ! The pub itself has been beautifully refurbished but the service let it down ! We weren't asked if we required more drinks so had to order at the bar each time and we were never asked if our food was alright at any stage during the meal. By 10.00 p.m everyone else had vacated and by 10.30p.m. it became obvious that we were required to leave as the lady behind the bar became quite agitated. We were on holiday and had looked forward to having a meal here having read the reviews but unfortunately we felt let down by the lack of communication.

Wonderful service with a superb standard of food. Very good wine selection. One of our party has a food sensitivity & they went out of their way to explain what dishes had in them. We were most impressed. All in all a wonderful evening.
Thank you to all of the staff & congratulations to the management.

What an attractive spot
Hidden away.
I was staying at The George in Castle Carey.
Seeking a more interesting menu
I found The Stags Head Inn.
So, a very pleasant supper-
Excellent Devon crab starter
Followed by pan baked hake over a bed of small chick peas and kale.
A couple of glasses of Malbec.
No pudding!!
Very good
Except for the fly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Popped in there for a light lunch today on the recommendation of a friend. Easy to find on a local lane off the A371. There is a good sized car park opposite. On entering go right for the restaurant and left for the bar. We went left and there were 3 ales some lagers and cider plus what looked like a good choice of wines and gin. The menu was not large but varied enough for us to find something to enjoy, which we did. The landlady and her staff were friendly and helpful, we shall return for dinner and I’ll review again.
