Yes well quite good. Surprised by the mixed reviews below as it was fine when we went. Food and service good. Quite pricey as mentioned below. . Benefits by parking outside on the High Street - Short stay (2 hours) pay and display but this means you usually can find a space nearby.

We regularly got for the friday lunchtime fish and chips special and have never been disappointed yet. The staff are always so welcoming and helpful too. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend, and have take a few of our friends who all loved it too

We stopped for a quick bite, coffee and home made cheese scones, the food was nice however it was expensive.

We visited the Cafe at Barkers in Northallerton before going to the Black Horse At Kirby Fleetham.

The store was amazing it took me back 40 year's in a nice way with well presented counters impeccably dressed colleagues all with a smile even when you didn't want to buy anything!

So the thought of tea and lunch in the Cafe seemed like a good idea.

That's where it got disappointing.... the attitude of the lady that received us was at best rude and honestly had we not been with friends I would have left.

It felt like we where an inconvenience in the lady's day, not part of why she was employed or the purpose of her work.

Food was nice, carrot and coriander soup ! ( A bit more bread next time please )

My wife and friends enjoyed the food, £40 for lunch is enough money in my mind to have some courtesy thrown in for free !!

This review relates to the 1882 Cafe Bistro on the High Street and not the one inside Barkers Store.
This cafe is divided by 4 steps into two areas and is self service. By the time I had negotiated these four steps down to my table my coffee had spilt onto the saucer. However, more disturbing, later on an elderly customer almost fell down these stairs whilst carrying his tray to reach his table.
