We spent last weekend here to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Although the hotel is very comfortable & the refurbishment is very tasteful, we were extremely disappointed with the food. We had lunch in the Tap Room (bar) when we arrived, the burger was less than average quality. We booked dinner for Saturday night in the Still Room (restaurant) expecting to experience fine dining, only to discover that the menu was the same menu as the lunch menu in the Tap Room!! There was no a la carte or tasting (chef) menu as advertised on the website! On inquiring we were told by the waiting staff that they change menus seasonally and they were between menus ( on a Saturday night!!!). This is extremely poor for a hotel of this calibre and very disappointing for us. Needless to say we did not eat in the hotel the next night and we will think twice about returning to the Swan.

We are sad to hear that your dining experience at in both the Still Room and the Tap Room did not meet your expectations. We will pass your comments on to our Culinary Team regarding the Beef Burger.

Our menu has recently been updated in both the Tap Room and the Still Room and we will make sure that the website gets updated immediately.

We do hope that you would reconsider and try our menu at The Swan again in the future - we would certainly welcome the opportunity to deliver an experience that exceeds your expectations.

We've been to Southwold many times but this was our first stay at the Swan. We had room 2, a lovely big room overlooking the square. Superb bathroom with massive shower and a bath too. We found the bed to be extremely comfortable so no idea what the other commentators have found. Breakfast in the stylish Still Room was excellent freshly cooked Full English. Service was attentive and friendly at all times, really felt welcome. Handy parking at the back.

Had a problem with the Apple TV in our room, the chap that came to look at it couldn't help and there were no instructions. Apart from that, no complaints.

Very happy to recommend.

Room Tip: Room 2 was excellent!

Lovely people, lovely rooms, 19/21, we were upgraded to these gorgeous rooms, anyone who faults the beds must be mad, I slept so well, very sad to be home, we will be returning as soon as possible, Thankyou all, lovely gin on the house and mix of teas and coffees machine was great, lovely big shower in most rooms, and gorgeous temple spa toiletries. Loved it.

This is the best hotel in Southwold if not the cheapest. Stayed there at least 60 times and loved every visit. Food super, local ADNAMS ales great, friendly staff and VERY comfortable bedrooms. Southwold cliquey but great fun.

So having stayed there before, I thought I would give the Swan a try after the recent refurbishment. This is certainly a good hotel but not an excellent one. The main issues relate to the impracticality of the design features e.g

• I could not sleep on account the sagging bed, more akin to a hammock (surely a decent bed is a prerequisite ?)
• The pillows were overly soft to the extent they did not even function as pillows (Holiday Inn hotels give a pillow choice).
• The outside room light could not be switched off and there were no black out curtains. Hence, the staff dismantled the light in order to darken the room (this apparently is a common complaint, has the designer never stayed in a hotel ?)
• The main room door does not open fully due to the blind roller hitting the wall (Rookie design error)
• The bathroom floods due to an ineffective tiny shower screen, leaving a dangerous slippery floor.
• The tap valves work backwards (why ?) so that you scold yourself when you really wanted colder water.
• The bathroom blind can't be shut because the closure chain is behind the blind (idiotic)
• The TV can't be heard properly as the sound reverberates in the tallboy it has been mounted in.

It's a shame, but I can't help thinking a golden opportunity was missed to create an excellent hotel and that Adnams have been sold a pup regarding the design. Web site states contemporary design but is perhaps more like a student homework project that has to use up all the furnishings catalogue.

My room smelled of dog, no excuse for not cleaning properly.

However, the staff are great, responding quickly to emails, swift check in and the night staff were most excellent in preparing me an early cold breakfast in my room.

It is worth a look if you fancy a somewhat expensive (overpriced) weekend stay, but if you want a good night's sleep, I suggest you stay at the local Premier Inn and then visit Southwold in the day.
