This temple has many entrances but i enter from the singhadwar. This temple is thevmain centre of attraction for the tourists as well as the devotees. Go and pay your offering to the trust and get prasad. You can also buy prasad from the priests in the temple. There are lot of food shops especially sweets like khaja which is the most famous. You hav other shops selling clothes and mostly things used in hindu worship. But non hindus are strictly not allowed entry into the temple.

This place is considered as one of the 4 main Pilgrimage . But I am sorry to say , its better to watch Deity on TV and pray then to come in actual and have Darshan .
How Religion is used as a business can be seen here . Both Me and my wife were totally upset with in 5 minutes of entering the temple .
There are touts or so called Pandits who will take us out of the line and get a better darshan , just need to pay them extra .

There are three lines VIP darshan , they give you a band from feet of lord jagannatha , pat on your head

Other one is a regular line and last is the line for common people . Whereever you go , what they want is money . No one is bothered to how the person feels , the idea is to get money out of the pocket .

The place is not properly kept at all , cleaning is required all over . There is NO SHORTAGE of funds only there is shortage of mentallity and mind set , that we need to do something for the society .

I am really pained to see the state of affairs.. Wish things get better , that only I can wish ...

Nothing more to say

PURI is one among the CHAR DHAMS (four abodes), other three being Badrinath, Dwaraka and Rameshwaram, that are mostly revered by Hindus. The main deity Shri Jagannath literally means Lord of the UNIVERSE and a form of Lord VISHNU. It is believed that Lord Vishnu dines at Puri, takes bath at Rameshwaram, rules at Dwaraka and meditates at Badrinath. One of the four Shankaracharya’Peeth (seats) is at Puri known as Govardhan Peth.
For a peaceful and smooth Darshan and to avoid crowd and delay, one can try in the early hours from 5 am onwards or night time after 9 pm. At night around 9.30 pm we had repeated Darshan. Since certain renovation work was gong on in the sanctum sanatorium we had Darshan from a distance. Darshan from 5 am to 10 pm and even beyond.
Alert of Ashada Masa: During Radha Yatra time that commences from Ashada Sudha dwitiya all the three deities are away from the Temple for 9 days. On first day (Ratha Yatra) and 9th day (Bahuda Radha Yatra) the Deities are moving in Rath on Bada danda(grand road) and in between the 7 days are kept at Gundicha temple for Darshan. Again Darshan of the Lord at the Temple is closed for 15 days in Ashada Krishna paksha as the Lord reportedly suffers from fever after Snana Yatra and kept at a secret place for rest.. During this period devotees visit Alarnath Mandir, 25 km from Puri as it is the belief that Lord Jagannatha during this period manifests as Alarnath.
FLAG is changed daily around 6 pm and many devotees present to witness the same,
No mobiles, cameras and leather goods are permitted into the Temple.
VIMALA DEVI Temple. This is a small shrine within the temple complex. This is one among the four most important Shakti Peethas (Pada Khanda) though this may not find a place in the Slokas of 18 Sakthi peethas. The food offerings to Lord Jagannatha are offered to Vimala after which they are sanctified as Mahaprasada. This Deity is more important to tantric worshippers. Vimala Devi is considered to be the tantric consort of Jagannatha. Don’t miss to see the Goddess.Women are allowed to have Darshan from a distance.
Prasada: The traditional prasada (devotional offerings) can be had in a separate market called Anada bazaar, left side In the complex while coming out .
Offerings: A rate list is available at the Temple Trust Office for the type of offerings [mostly vegetarian food offerings) one would like to make that would be served in a small Mandir after Darshan while noting names of all family members, a dry Prasad Khaja is given in a basket to carry home. If it is first visit take a panda fixing the rate as you decide, may be Rs 30 to 50 per person. Avoid others coming in between.

The temple by itself is very beautiful. The only problem is the crowd. The crowd management is very poor. You are pushed and squeezed before you have the darshan of Shri. Jaganath.
And one has to be cautious not to accept anything from anybody. Once you take even a small flower from a pandit they start asking for money.
Take a receipt from the temple management for bhog.
A must visit for architecture lovers.

Very good temple of Jagannath, his brother and Subadra. The driver told the story that the King wanted the deities to be painted by a painter and the painter asked for 21 days and requested the King not to enter the temple till he finishes. But, the King was curious and he enters to see on 19th day and hence the deities are not finished and hence have no proper legs and hands.
