We spent 2 nights at Ri Kinjya recently. Had read such great reviews that we were actually expecting a lot more in terms of experience but we left the place with mixed feelings, esp. for the price you pay.

a. Wifi was not working and we had some extremely urgent calls. Reception staff helped us with a dongle with which we managed to survive.

b. Breakfast on both days was identical and very very sparse choices. I know its a small property / boutique resort, and laying out a larger buffet might not be possible, but that can be made up by rotating menu as also maybe having more a-la-carte options. Food was also ok, nothing bad or great. The restaurant staff is very helpful and courteous but not well trained/organised. I thought they were running around a lot like headless chickens - trying to serve tables as well as trying to replenish buffet etc.

c. Property is small but nice. well done. Rooms are excellent irrespective of which type of room or what view.

I think with some effort from management, rebalancing/training of staff, revisiting food esp breakfast...there is tremendous opportunity to offer a far better experience.

Ri Kynzai in Meghalaya is a heavenly place overlooking the Barapani Lake. From the lake view cottage you feel as if you are living in the clouds. The huge veranda overlooking the lake is amazing place to sit and sip that hot cup of tea whilst waiting for sunrise from behind the mountains... in Jan it is quite cold and so the heater in the room and the hot water bottle in the bed is very much useful and gives the place a cozy ambiance. The food at Ri Kynzai is very good and service is very friendly. The trail to the lake behind the hotel is very much like from a fairy tale movie. Off sites to Chirapunjee and also to Shilong city are easy. However one watchout: road to Shillong is always crowded after 8 am . All in all, i would strongly recommend Ri Kynzai

Me and my son visited this place. Probably, one of the most beautiful places we have ever stayed. The cottage was not only well appointed but full of wood and warmth. The fireplace kept us awake and talking almost the whole of the night. The peaceful view of the lake first thing in the morning sitting in the verandah, with a steaming cup of tea will forever remain etched in our memories. One of the most relaxing holidays. The food, warmth of the staff, the spa and the walk down to the lake just made it an unforgettable trip.

Great calm resort overlooking the lake.

Big rooms with balcony facing the lake, wird all amenities.
Extremely friendly staff, offering good service.

We stayed here during a around trip to Meghalaya, which was cut short due to closing of all touristical sights. So we took a walk around the grounds, into the village. Especially the afternoon walk to the village was an experience: friendly, laughing children, English speaking adults, it made for a nice stroll.

We laughed the restaurant with it's amazing choice of Indian Vegetarian dieses. All extremely tasteful and with generous portions.

I also had a relaxation massage at the spa, which was great. Our friend had the special regional massage. She loved it, too.
