Capt. Williamson Sangma State Museum
Ranked #36 of 43 things to do in Shillong
Attraction details
Reviewed 8 July 2018

A poorly maintained museum with almost no attractive exhibits. Poorly lit also. No proper staffing. Skip the place to avoid paying unnecessary entry fees and wasting time. Visit Don Bosco museum instead and spend a couple of hours there. You’ll love it.

Since we have been seeing Museums all over India and also in certain parts of the world, it may look average, but i feel that one must see this museum as it brings to light the history of the local Khasi tribal culture, their habits and lifestyle. The ticket is also very cheap at Rs.5/-. The Museum is well maintained, very neat, systematic display of exhibits. It is worth visiting since you have come all the way to Shillong.

We had visited this government museum during our sightseeing in Shillong. Entry tickets to the museum are very cheap - only 5 rupees per person. The museum is well maintained and showcases the culture & history of Meghalaya. There are many galleries showcasing models dressed in traditional attire representing different tribes of Meghalaya e.g. Khasis, Jaintis and Garos. We saw a gallery showcasing beautiful oil paintings and another gallery showcasing musical instruments used by people in the North East.

Located within the city, a beautiful museum showing the cultural side of the native tribes of Meghalaya. Good place for a family visit.
