“Outback Pioneers has a warm friendly atmosphere & good activities”
Review of Outback Pioneers

Outback Pioneers
Ranked #8 of 32 Restaurants in Longreach
Description: In 2016, Kinnon & Co restored and renovated this heritage building, which has been at the heart of the Longreach community since the 1920s. It’s now a delightful venue to meet, eat and discover. Relax with coffee and cake or a light lunch, sink into an armchair to read outback books and brochures in the Welcome Home Parlour, call into the Outback Pioneers booking office, and enjoy all the lovingly-collected memorabilia that decorates the interior. The adjoining Kinnon & Co Station Store is an outback emporium not to be missed – shop outback style in rooms full of gifts, homewares, outback clothing, local crafts and souvenirs.

Outback Pioneers is situated at The Welcome Home Booking Office at 126 Eagle St Longreach. The staff are warm friendly and very helpful. Lunch is yummy. You can book here for a Cobb & Co stage coach ride, Nogo Station tour, Starlight cruse and dinner, day trip to Winton these activities have a lot of added extras and surprises. The stone grill evening dinner is good to finish the day with.

Booked the Thompson River Cruise with Kinnon & Co..
The bus picked us up at our Motel with friendly Graham driving and commentating.
At the embarking point Jeremy had us in fits of giggles with his safety and summary of our impending boat trip. What a character. This continued onboard much to our delight. The nibblies supplied were very nice and you could bring your own alcoholic drink or buy soft ones on board.
The cruise was enjoyable and informative and humorous. Everyone was smiling and enjoying the trip.
The meal was a bush stew with mash potato and more humour, followed by apple pie custard and cream.
We then all filed over to the sound and light show, a film all about Captain Starlight.
After that we had damper and tea/coffee. Old Scotty was great with his poetry.
We all said it was the highlight of our weekend. Young Jeremy Kinnon was an absolute delight and we are trying to remember his jokes to tell the Grandkids.
Well done, we will be back to do some of the other Kinnon and Co experiences.

Outback Pioneers is owned by the Kinnon family, and provides many tours and shows for those visiting the region. Call at their distinct building in Eagle Street to book their tours and shows. We bought the Big 3 pass from them and highly recommend it as good value and variety. The smoko that is part of the coach ride, was able to provide us with gluten free scones for our coeliac needs. Also their campfire dinner also catered gf. The Novo station tour is also provided by this family. This family business grew out of the need for them to diversify beyond their agricultural roots, to be able to survive the long drought years experienced here. They also do a day trip to Winton return on Saturday. Make Outback Pioneers your first stop when arriving in Longreach, you won't be disappointed.

We went on the stagecoach ride which was a wonderful experience . You do get a bit dusty. Also saw the old time tent show which was extremely funny and enjoyable. That night we attended the starlight cruise which was absolutely fabulous. The food was great; the show was good. Watching the sunset on the boat was fabulous. Definitely recommend it
