Very interesting site, with a laid-back, self-guided audio tour. Many highlights, suitable for families or groups of friends. Amazing stalactite and stalagmite displays, and great views on the way up and down. Free parking available just under the entrance and café, then a steep path and steps up to the entrance. It is cold in there, don't forget your layers! Also flat shoes, waterproof jacket as there is a lot of water around. Nice rocks and jewellery available in the shop. We didn't try the café but there are a couple of tables outside to sit at while you wait for your time slot / chill out afterwards. Friendly staff, great experience all in all.

We loved it. Self guide audio tour meant we went at our own pace. Interesting audio guide as told by family owner so included personal stories as well as interesting facts. Lovely staff there too !

Yes, I was breathing hard on a very wet windy day at the entry to the cave, but the self-guided tour was an excellent mini adventure for a bit of an overweight old codger. The app enabled a Bluetooth signal to feed directly into my sort of hearing aids. Great! I could actually hear a tour guide giving an informative and full explanation. Yes, I came out with a scraped head and the odd twinge, and no, it was not the Sistine Chapel, but the chapel aint got Blue John nor the glory of the Peaks and August heather, and Treak has!

Thank you for your review!. The Bluetooth enabled App technology is a great success for us, and now you have discovered a great additional benefit for some hearing aid users too. This technology is amazing !

Excellent format. Self-guided allows you to proceed at own pace (subject to people ahead of/behind) you. As per the info on website, be prepared to bend down (low entrance), reasonably steep stairs both up & down, and it’s wet down there, so constantly dripping from the ceiling - which is pretty much as you’d expect for a trip down into caves! Good history lesson about the formations, how this part of England was once a tropical lagoon (!) and how the mine became a tourist attraction. 9 & 11yo both enjoyed it.

Visited with young family. App guide worked even underground! Self guided so not rushed and able to double back. Very interesting information on geology of the area. Small terraced cafe, shop and tiny display. Stone polishing was very casual but came away with small polished stone memento - could have been better organised. Note steep steps and gradient to entrance and to exit. Inside hand rails and uneven surfaces so not for infirm. Well lit and plenty of phot options. Friendly staff who were very accommodating. Pre- booked at time of visit. Worth the money.

Thank you. Sometimes despite our best efforts too much can happen and we are not as organised as usual!
