Got very mixed feelings about our stay.
We booked a golf/ Spa break for 10 people. It was booked through Gareth who runs the golf side, he couldn't of been more helpful. The men who played golf were also impressed with the golf course.
The Spa treatments we all received were fabulous, I had a full body massage by an agency therapist who didn't work for the hotel and it was the best massage I have ever had.

Unfortunately; the hotel is very run down and in need of a refurbishment. The "spa" is very disappointing looks like an old public baths. No jacuzzi, tiles missing on floor, broken locker doors, rust on ceiling, just generally bad.

We had an upgraded room, to a suite with a balcony and our room was really nice. However the other people we were with were underwhelmed by their basic rooms, things like no shower gel.

The communal areas also look very dated, the bar, restaurant and general corridors.

The most shocking part for us was the lack of food and drink available.
We arrived at 8am for a 9.30 golf tee and there was no breakfast or even drinks available.
Then at 1.30 after their round of golf they couldn't get a drink.
We had booked lunch at 2.30 yet this was a complete surprise to the restaurant, who gave us a very limited choice menu. Although the food was OK, it wasn't what we would of chosen given access to a full menu, the bar wasn't open. And we were offered bottled beers only.
We understand that the hotel had only recently reopened after covid lockdown. But it just appeared to us like this hotel was struggling and probably won't last much longer and it seemed to be running on a low budget, min staffing. Which is a shame because its in a beautiful area and the staff are lovely.

I took a couple of my friends to Portal Premier Golf Course they where amazed by the look of the golf course When we went into the bar they were amazed by how friendly the staff(Donna, Megan and Sophie) were, they couldn't do enough for us. They loved the golf course and how good it is. When we finished our round the ladies again couldn't do enough for us still friendly and happy they are a credit to Mcdonalds and the golf course. We can not wait to go back and play again.

Played 21st May within a Society, it had rained almost non stop 24 hrs previously and forecast wasn't much better. No option to cancel or change as we were told course doesn't flood. Well teeing off in the rain after 1pm I can tell you it did not take long for green to gather water. It's a long course and 99% of golfers I saw were using trolleys, needless to say some green surrounds looked like motor bikes had been driven around them.
If you are a member or playing the following day you will be dissapointed they allowed so many groups to play on a day most courses would have closed.
They didn't even open up the half way House so you get a coffee to warm up.
I'm sure in the dry it's a wonderful course to play but in my opinion the hotel just wanted our money as we paid in advance and didn't want to offer an alternative, and i question the course management. You managed to get my money once, you wont get it again!
And I'm not even going to get into the small portions of food we paid for.
