Stayed 10 days at Catalonia Royal Tulum. This hotel is perfect for a romantic break - it's quiet, peaceful, the grounds are beautiful and the atmosphere is so relaxed. Staff are all very friendly and efficient. A few moans. We upgraded to Privilege which gave us a better room (don't know what the difference was) and access to Beloved restaurant. I really wouldn't bother next time as we only slept in room and the restaurant was not really that good (very limited menu). Impossible to get a bed around pool unless you go down before breakfast and play the towel game. Animals being paraded around the pool for photo opportunities is not our cup of tea.
Overall this hotel makes you fall into a slow walking, chilled and relaxed mood which is just what we needed. Much prefer this hotel to the mega hotels along the stretch from the airport. We caught the Collectivo a few times to Akumal beach and the local water hole which was great. Food in hotel was OK but not 5 star but didn't need to plan ahead to book.
Overall a great holiday which left us with a smile on our faces and totally relaxed which I suppose is what it's all about. Not sure we would return however as it's quite expensive and we could probably get a better deal closer to home.More
