The people working there were very helpful and explained how the store fit into the history of settlement in Maryborough. The displays are a "work in progress" and the paperwork gives an insight into what items people needed. I had not realised how many years some of the products on display had been sold in Australia. The founders of the shop were very enterprising people!
I visited Brennan and Geraghty’s Store yesterday for an experience unlike any other.
You’re told when you enter that the store has been left exactly as it was the day it closed. There can be no doubt that this is the case, right down the accumulated dust & detritus of 46 years. One gets the sensation, I suspect, that may have inspired Howard Carter when he finally broke through to Tutankhamen’s tomb. You literally walk through the artefact.
This is a brilliant experience amongst numerous others from Old Maryborough. A must see!
Worth a visit just to see how the store operated 50 years ago. It has been purchased and restored by the National trust.
This really is worth visiting, it really makes you remember how it was when we were youngsters( !!!) and even before!! Your memory is well and truly jogged remembering how far the retail experience has developed. This store was probably well ahead of its time in the day. Big thank you to the gentleman volunteer who was there today, so helpful and a fount of knowledge.
Fly back in time and see how a general store was kept, products they stocked and prices for such items. Truly a great experience. The picnic tables out the back are a refreshing finish, to sit under the shade of the big trees and take it all in.
Even our easily-bored 8 year old was fascinated by the vast array of products on display. The curator on duty when we went (Sun 7th Jan 2018) was very knowledgable but also told stories in an interesting and engaging way.
