What an incredible place to visit. Absolutely fascinating. Well worth a visit. The knowledge of the gentleman attending was top knotch. What an outstanding legacy left for Maryborough.
This is an amazing collection of the wares of the very old general store. This shop actually operated for 101 years and has been left in it's original condition. The lady volunteer who was there the day we visited had been in this shop for 19 years. She knew so much of the history and the operations of the shop, it was unbelievable.
Fabulous that all of these old grocery treasures in the original shop have been preserved to be appreciated for other generations. Excellent. While you are in town, marvel at the old Silver Spray Flour Mill at 560 Kent St. Rusty corrugated iron flour mill of yesteryear up for sale and most probably demolished soon.
As a family we like to look at old stuff and learn about things from history so this place really appealed to us. Everything in this store is as it was when they closed it in 1972 so it is a treasure trove of old cartons and boxes and general store items from then and also from very much before then. I don't think stock moved very quickly! A lovely old gentleman showed us around and told us lots of information. Our only regret was that we had only forty minutes here due to another engagement.
We visited Maryborough for the day from Hervey Bay. This store is a must do! We loved it. Everything left as it was when the store closed. Tea from the 1800s still in stock.
Fascinating look back in time at a grocery/merchandise store of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The meticulous record keeping is amazing as is the goods still on shelves from the 1800's.
